    Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland City School District extended its gratitude to outgoing Board of Education President Dave Blumberg and Board Member Tim Taggart, who were officially recognized at the December 12 Board Meeting. Interim Superintendent Dr. Amy Crouse presented each member with a plaque to commemorate their service to the students in Loveland.

    “It takes time, effort and great deal of energy to be a part of shaping the future of the Loveland City School District, and we sincerely appreciate Mr. Blumberg and Mr. Taggart for helping to lead the way in creating a world-class experience for our students,” said Crouse. “Both of these individuals are valued members of the Tiger Family and the Loveland community. Their leadership has helped make Loveland the destination school district it is for families.” 

    Dave Blumberg, the outgoing Board of Education president, has served as a member of the Board of Education since his election in November 2013; Tim Taggart served during 2017 after being voted in by the Board after the retirement of longtime Board Member Linda Pennington.

    New board members will be officially welcomed at the Organizational Meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018.

    Blumberg releases statement amid failed bid to Loveland Board of Education

    Loveland, Ohio – School Board President Dave Blumberg released this statement last night just as the polls closed. He was defeated in his re-election bid for a second term on the Board. Blumberg submitted a nominating petition with 71 valid signatures. The required number of valid signatures is 75. He then filed the required paperwork to be a write-in candidate.

    I sit here on the evening of the election reflecting on what a pleasure it is to live in such a wonderful community. As a write-in candidate for the Loveland School Board of Education, the odds of success are very small. Recently many community members endorsed me through powerful email and social media messaging. For those who wrote on my behalf, read on my behalf and voted, I am particularly grateful. I will reflect fondly on my previous four years as a Board member. The time spent endeavoring to improve the student educational experience through collaboration with very talented people has been profoundly gratifying. Handing two of my daughter their diplomas were personally indelible moments. Thank you to my wife, daughters and friends for their support during this election. Regardless of the election outcome, I am humbled by the community support and want everyone to know how appreciative I am.  Go Tigers!

    The final results in the race for the three open seats on the Board are as follows:

    (3 to be elected – 4 year term)

    Michele N. Pettit – 2953

    Ned Portune – 2961

    Eileen Washburn – 2963

    Dave Blumberg (Write-In Candidate) – 403

    Michele Pettit was re-elected, and first-time candidates Ned Portune and Eileen Washburn were successful, with Washburn receiving the most votes. The other members of the current Board whose terms expire in 12/31/19 are, Kathryn Lorenz, Ph.D. and Art Jarvis. 

    Tim Taggart was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Linda Pennington last year. The term ends after this November’s election. This Board position is one of the open seats you see above.

    We have reported how many write-in votes were received in each county, however, it is not until the official count that we will have a true total of “valid” write-in votes.

    Watch Loveland School Board candidates face the public

    Loveland, Ohio – Last Wednesday, Loveland Magazine partnered with the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance to bring the candidates for a seat on the Loveland School Board together at the Media Center of the Loveland Intermediate School to face voters and their questions. The forum was moderated by former Board President Dr. Judy McClanahan. She was elected to the Loveland Board of Education and subsequently served 12 years on the Board. During this time she served as President of the Board three times.

    Candidates, Michele N. Pettit, Ned Portune, and Eileen Washburn were in attendance. Dave Blumberg could not attend because of a previous business commitment. Three will be elected to a 4-year term.

    As a 26 year resident, It has been an absolute pleasure to serve on the Board of Education for the past four years. The District is headed in a positive direction advancing our major goals in the areas of Growth, Care and Innovation.

    In the past four years, we have constructed much needed facility improvements, including a new playground, tennis courts, reconfiguring the high school and affecting the replacement of the Tiger Trail entrance to the high school just to name a few. We have invested in long needed updated curriculum to meet the challenges and needs of today’s students as they prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities. We have established the Destination Loveland initiative which includes engaging community stakeholders to help define the future of education in Loveland. This broad student centered initiative is beginning to materialize into a meaningful long term educational solution that will continue to make Loveland a destination school district for years to come.

    With the current positive momentum, it would be in the Districts best interest to maintain Board leadership continuity so these advancements can continue to accelerate. Please consider these critical points and accomplishments in your vote. Thank you for your continued investment in our community and remember to WRITE IN DAVE BLUMBERG AT THE BALLOT BOX! My name will not appear on the ballot and it is critical for voters to literally WRITE IN my name in order to cast a vote for me.  DON’T WRITE ME OFF – WRITE ME IN! GO TIGERS!
