    Loveland Board of Education approves restructure of central office leadership

    Combined 61 years of experience

     

    Loveland, Ohio – For the 2017-18 school year, the Loveland City School District has hired two educators to the central office staff at director-level positions, bringing a combined 61 years of experience serving students to the administrative team. The Loveland Board of Education approved Robin Wiley as the director of human resources in a one-year contract at their July 10 meeting, and Andrea Conner as the director of secondary programs in a two-year contract on August 1.

    “Mrs. Wiley is a retired veteran administrator from the area; her experience and leadership will be a valuable asset to all of the central office team,” said Dr. Amy Crouse, interim superintendent. “Mrs. Conner is also a seasoned educator who comes to the district in a newly created role that is designed to support our district goals and improve processes – it is very exciting to have her experience and expertise to continue to grow our academic program.”

    Robin Wiley served students for 33 years before retiring from the Princeton City School District in 2012. She has since worked as an independent contractor/educational consultant. Wiley began her tenure serving students as a teacher, and went on to serve as a principal, superintendent, and curriculum coordinator at several Ohio public schools. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from West Virginia University in 1978, her Master of Music from Ohio University in 1980, her Principal Certification from the University of Cincinnati in 1992 and her Superintendent Certificate from the University of Dayton in 1996.

    “I believe I have always been a Tiger in spirit, and having worked closely with Dr. Crouse at the Princeton City School District – I was thrilled to be able to use my experience as a public school servant to assist her in this capacity,” said Wiley. “Loveland is a special place, and I’m excited at the opportunity to continue to grow the Tiger Staff by recruiting the best of the best to this district.”

    Wiley replaces former Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Keith Koehne, who left the district to serve as the executive director of curriculum and instruction at the Lakota School District.

    Andrea Conner will be director of secondary programs

    Andrea Conner has served students for 28 years, most recently as the director of college and career readiness at the Goshen Local School District, where she was integral in assisting the district with its implementation of the career advising policy as well as developing an innovative internship program for high school students. Conner served as a high school English teacher for 23 years.

    “I believe positive relationships between teachers and students is how one helps students reach their full potential,” said Conner. “I’m proud to be part of the Tiger Family because of the outstanding innovative opportunities that this district provides to the students. It is an exciting time to be a Tiger!”

    Ahead of Sales Tax Holiday, Attorney General DeWine offers tips for consumers

    The holiday starts on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 12:00 a.m. and ends on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.

    During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:

    • Clothing priced at $75 per item or less;
    • School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and
    • School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.

    Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.

    Sales Tax Holiday Frequently Asked Questions

    Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today offered consumer protection tips ahead of Ohio’s sales tax holiday, which runs this Friday through Sunday.

    “As people take advantage of the sales tax holiday and complete their back-to-school shopping, we want them to be prepared,” Attorney General DeWine said. “We’ve helped thousands of people resolve consumer complaints, and we know that many disputes are the result of a misunderstanding. We put an emphasis on prevention to help people avoid problems and make the most of their money.”

    During the sales tax holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:

    • Clothing priced at $75 per item or less;
    • School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and 
    • School instructional materials priced at $20 per item or less.  

    The Ohio Department of Taxation provides detailed information about the sales tax holiday on its website, including FAQs about what is and what is not exempt from sales tax during the holiday.

    Tips for consumers include:

    • Plan ahead. The sales tax holiday runs from Friday, Aug. 4, through Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017. Determine in advance the purchases you want to make, and review the Department of Taxation’s FAQs to understand what is and what is not exempt from sales and use tax during the sales tax holiday. Also research sellers’ reputations by reading customer reviews and checking for complaints on file with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and Better Business Bureau.
    • Understand return policies before you buy. In Ohio, sellers can choose to set their own return policies, including policies of “no returns,” but they should clearly tell you what their return policy is before you check out or complete the transaction. For example, the return policy shouldn’t be posted only on the back of a receipt.
    • Stay safe online. Research websites you plan to use, and make sure a website is secure before you enter any personal information or payment details. In the web address, look for the “s” in “https” and/or a lock symbol to help ensure a website has security features. Also consider paying with a credit card, which generally gives you stronger protections to dispute unauthorized charges.
    • Check the exclusions and limitations of an offer. Exclusions and limitations must be clearly disclosed in advertisements, including online, so review terms and conditions carefully before you go to the store or make a purchase.
    • Keep your receipts. Maintaining a complete record of a sale will help you handle problems that may arise after the purchase. Keep receipts, copies of advertisements, photos of products, and other documentation until the transaction and billing process are complete.
    • Monitor your accounts. Regularly check your credit card and bank accounts for unauthorized charges or unexpected activity. If you find problems, immediately notify your credit card provider or bank. The sooner you identify a problem, the sooner you can work to correct it.
    • Protect your personal information. Don’t carry around extra, unneeded credit cards, debit cards, or other sensitive information in your wallet or purse. Also limit giving out your personal information. Check privacy policies to see how sellers will use your information.
    • Watch for scams and identity theft. Con artists operate year round. If you receive a message saying you’ve won the lottery, the IRS is coming to arrest you, or a family member is out of the country and in need of money immediately, it’s likely a scam. Also, help watch for signs of potential identity theft by checking your credit report using www.AnnualCreditReport.com.

    Consumers who need help addressing a consumer problem or question should contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Office at www.OhioProtects.org or 800-282-0515.

    Nice research and write-up. This is not at all surprising as it is how large scale development gets done these days…some deals are significantly more complex…look where development is “hot” and you’ll see even more increased complexity.

    Interesting information about the new apartment development in Loveland. Some secret meetings, closed door agreements, a lot of public funding for a commercial development. Good job Loveland Magazine uncovering this information.

    On June 3, the 2017 Loveland High School class celebrated their commencement at Xavier University’s Cintas Center. Many of the 373 students who graduated have achieved impressive feats through their high school career, and will now enter into a new stage of life. This ceremony symbolized that step. 160 received honor diplomas.

    Mitch Robison welcomed everyone to the commencement  Robinson has been active in athletics, and was a standout player on the basketball team. Robinson will be attending Indiana University.

Ingal will be attending Notre Dame. Dillhoff played Lacrosse and was recently recognized at the spring sports awards for her performance. Dillhoff will also be attending Notre Dame.     Aaron Autin plays guitar during the creative co-salutatorian speech. Autin was one of the top bowlers for Loveland, and will be attending Miami University.

    Rachel Ingal and Margaret Eilert, sing during the graduation ceremony. Both were members of Show Choir. Eilert was awarded the Maegly Music Scholarship, was named best female soloist in the National Show Choir competition and was first violin in chamber orchestra. Eilert will be attending Capital University.

    Graduation was, in most ways, just a symbolic step towards the future of these hundreds of students. But it was an important step, and a time to reflect on the numerous successes of the class of 2017. The talent, dedication and passion demonstrated by students of the class have been clearly demonstrated through the list of accomplishments that go along with every graduate. Through academics, arts, athletics and community involvement, individuals of the Loveland class of 2017 have made an effort to strengthen Loveland and build a culture. As these impressive many continue on their trend of high aspirations, there is no doubt that they can positively impact their community and the world as a whole.
