    Preview: Loveland ‘s new Historic Downtown’s Station 63 fire house

    Loveland, Ohio – The City recently promoted a glimpse of what a new fire station will look like that will be built in Historic Downtown. A new Station 63 will be located one block East of the current station.

    The current Station 63 firehouse at the intersection of East Loveland Avenue and State Route 48 will be relocated to 220 East Loveland Avenue adjacent to The Trails at East Loveland senior apartment community.

    In making the announcement, Loveland-Symmes Fire Department fire Chief Otto Huber said, “I would like to thank the citizens’ working group who helped evaluate the new location. The station will provide much needed safety upgrades for our firefighters and will help us provide service to the community for decades to come.”

    The new station will be one-third larger and have two road entry points. One from from O’Bannon Avenue and one from East Loveland Avenue, and features more lot space to maneuver equipment according to City Hall.

    At more than 10,000 square feet, the station will feature two pull-through apparatus bays, one back-in bay, training rooms, ample storage for fire and EMS equipment, full living quarters, office space, and public restrooms. The building will be one story with garage door heights of 14 feet.

    The City says that it did not financially, make sense to renovate the existing firehouse and that multiple safety upgrades were needed. “For instance, today’s code would require an elevator to be installed — a huge expense for a building lacking other needed modern amenities. The current station has no pull-through bays, and its intersection location poses challenges.”

    “There were many reasons to rebuild the station, but the key reason came back to response time. Having pull-through bays and more access points dramatically can improve crews’ response,” explained Assistant City Manager Cory Wright.

    Loveland, Ohio – Special events must provide additional accessible parking and restrooms based on the anticipated number of people who will attend. After our request, City Hall has provided Loveland Magazine with some information for persons with a disability who may need parking spots, accessible bathrooms, or shuttle service for the 4th of July event that will be held in Historic Downtown. Loveland Magazine has provided additional information.

    • The accessible restrooms at the Loveland Bike Trail will be open at Nisbet Park.

    • There will be accessible portable toilets placed along/near the Loveland Bike Trail in the Linda J. Cox Trailside Parking lot, near Browns Crossing, and near Harrison Avenue.

    • For the downtown vicinity, there are existing accessible parking spots at Nisbet Park, the Firefighters’ Memorial, City Hall, and Linda J. Cox Trailside Parking lot.

    • There will also be added, temporary accessible parking spots along the Loveland Bike Trail near Nisbet Park.

    • The shuttle service to the festival is not accessible for persons with a disability.

    Here is the guide to the day’s activities

    Railroad Avenue will be temporarily closed from 2 PM until 11 PM to through traffic on July 4th. There will also be a temporary road closure along the parade route from approximately 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM.

    The Parade Route

    • The parade starts on Loveland-Madeira Road near the Loveland Elementary School at 7 PM.
    • It proceeds north on Loveland-Madeira Road to West Loveland Avenue.
    • The parade ends at West Loveland Avenue and the State Route 48/Second Street intersection.

    West Loveland Avenue will be closed from Riverside Drive to Karl Brown Way During the fireworks from approximately 10 PM until 10:30 PM.

    Parking Restrictions

    Some parking will be restricted due to parade and shuttle routes. Some parking spaces will be affected on the following streets:

    • West Loveland Avenue in Historic Downtown
    • Park Avenue
    • Riverside Drive
    • Third Street
    • Railroad Avenue
    • Harrison Avenue

    Kiwanis Park, including the Matt Haverkamp Foundation Dog Park, will be closed to event parking. In addition, the dog park will close at noon on July 4.

    Parking in Historic Downtown

    The city operates more than 10 free public lots. View parking map.

    Parking fees will be waived in the City Hall/Works lot on July 4.

    Keep in mind there are also private lots throughout Historic Downtown and fees may be charged.

    Shuttle 

    There are FREE shuttle rides that will run continuously from 4 PM until 11 PM.

    The shuttle is not accessible to persons with a handicap.

    Park-and-ride shuttle locations will be at Loveland High School (1 Tiger Trail) and the Loveland Early Childhood Center (6740 Loveland-Miamiville Road). Drop-off locations will be at Riverside Drive (near Veterans’ Memorial) and Third Street (near Whistle Stop Clay Works).

    A free concert by the band, Pandora Effect be at the Nisbet Park Amphitheater from 8 PM until 10 PM. The band played in the FanZone at GABP when the Atlanta Braves were in town for a sold-out game.

    Lawn Games — 4 PM until 6:30 PM — Fountain Greene (Near Fleet Feet)
    NEST Community Learning Center will host lawn games.

    Yankee Doodle Dog Show — 4 PM — Nisbet Park
    Meet at 3:45 PM at the Clock Tower in Downtown Loveland (near the Bike Trail crossing). Dogs will parade toward Nisbet Park at 4 PM. Three dogs will be selected as best-dressed winners and will receive a prize basket from Pet Wants.

    Water Zone — 4 PM until 8 PM — City Hall Lawn
    There will be a giant inflatable water slide and misting fans, plus a splash station for little ones.

    Food Trucks — 4 PM until 10 PM
    Food truck vendors will be available throughout the downtown area.

    Bingo — 5 PM & 8:30 PM — City Hall
    Take a break from the heat to play a few cards of bingo! An afternoon and evening session will be held. Prizes for game winners. Monetary donations will be accepted with all proceeds going toward the Ben Morrison Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships to Loveland High School seniors.

    Kids’ Bike Contest — 6:15 PM — Loveland Elementary School
    Decorate your bike/scooter/tricycle for the holiday, and meet at Loveland Elementary School (600 Loveland-Madeira Road) to take part in this annual tradition. Children will gather and then take part in the parade at 7 PM. Trailside Provisions has donated prizes for the top 3 entries.

    Pie Eating Contest — 8:30 PM — Little Miami Conservancy at Nisbet Park (Little Miami Scenic River and Trail Center)

    Paxton’s Grill hit-and run driver turned himself in to police

    Loveland, Ohio – According to Loveland Police Chief Michael Gabrielson, the driver who destroyed the patio at Paxton’s Grill last night was identified and he has turned himself in to police this afternoon.

    Gabrielson added that investigators have consulted with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office and multiple traffic charges are pending at this time.

    No other details have been provided.

    [Video Interview] Hit and run driver takes out Paxton’s Grill patio

    Loveland, Ohio – In an interview this morning one of the owners of Paxton’s Grill, Kevin Egan, told Loveand Magazine what he knew about the hit-and-run incident Friday evening at the popular restaurant in Historic Downtown Loveland. Paxton’s is located at 126 W Loveland Avenue adjacent to the Town Clock and the Loveland Bike Trail.

    The patio awning, fencing, and many of the tables and chairs were destroyed. Loveland police reported last night, “Several patients were transported but thankfully they are stable. Loveland PD investigated as the striking vehicle reportedly fled the scene.”

    Eyewitnesses reported the vehicle type, license number, and a description of the driver to police immediately after the incident. Paxton’s has video from a security camera of the incident and it was provided to police. Loveland Magazine has reached out to Loveland Chief of Police, Michael Gabrielson, on the status of the investigation and if an arrest has been made; however, he has not yet responded.

    Paxton’s has announced on FaceBook that they will be open this afternoon at 4 PM.

    The debris from the wreck was piled at the rear of Paxton’s on Saturday morning.

    Here is the list of vendors and non-profit organizations that will be attending the Sip and Shop

    Loveland, Ohio – “I am super excited about this sip and shop and I know it will be a great event to support Loveland Schools and these small businesses,” said Loveland High School Senior Kate Krabacher.

    Kate is a student at Loveland High School and is a member of Tigers Inc. Kate said that she and Tigers Inc are excited to be co-hosting the “Sip and Shop: Mother’s Day Edition” with Lemons and Limes Boutique owner, Wendy Knight. The event will be on April 22nd from 11 AM until 4 PM at the Landing Event Center on the bank of the Scenic Little Miami River in Historic Downtown.

    Lemons and Limes is a local small business boutique with locations in Loveland and Mason. Tigers Inc is a nonprofit organization run by a selective group of business-oriented student leaders at Loveland High School.

    Kate is also an intern at Lemons and Limes and Wendy said she has been in charge, from “start to finish” of the planning for the Mother’s Day event from day one. Kate reached out to business vendors in the area and persuaded them to be involved, and purchase a space at this event. Wendy said that one of the most important things she wants the community to know is that this is “truly a student led event”

    The venue will be set up as a small business market and each vendor will have their own space for a pop-up shop or display.

    Last year the event was run by an employee at the Landing Event Center, but she is no longer there, so Tigers Inc took on the responsibility of organizing the event with Wendy at Lemons and Limes.

    Kate said that it was a great success last year for all vendors and they are hoping to grow the attendance, even more, this year.

    Besides supporting Tigers Inc, this year, the event is supporting a Loveland Elementary School Capital Campaign to fund new tables for the LES cafeteria.

    Wendy said that shopping at the Sip and Shop is an excellent opportunity to support local small businesses by buying Mother’s Day gifts, birthday presents, something for yourself, or a graduation gift. She said there will be many items to buy for men and boys as well.

    There will be a map provided to attendees that will encourage shoppers to visit the other shops in Historic Downtown and Wendy encourages shoppers to buy a meal at a local restaurant.

    The fashion show will feature local “elite celebrity” models you will recognize, teachers, school administrators, and local moms and students. Most of the fashions come from the selection of clothing and accessories found at Lemons and Limes.

    Holiday Tree Lighting this Saturday in Historic Downtown

    Loveland, Ohio – Tree lighting and caroling will begin at 7 PM this Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Jackson Street Market in Historic Downtown. The market is on the Loveland Bike Trail. Non-perishable food donations will be collected for Loveland LIFE Food Pantry. There will be food trucks, live music, and holiday treats. Admission is free to the event that will run from 4 until 8 PM.

    Loveland, Ohio – Earlier this year, Enoteca Emilia, an Italian restaurant in Downtown Loveland unfortunately closed its doors for good. This was not the end, however, as owner Margaret Ranalli recently opened a new restaurant in its place called LoveBird, serving Southern comfort food staples inspired by her time living in Charleston, South Carolina.

    LoveBird is located on the first floor of the retail center of Loveland Station and faces the Loveland Historic District. There is plenty of indoor or patio seating, a fully stocked bar, as well as a carryout menu.
