A six-unit, 3-story townhome that is proposed by local builder John Hill Construction
Loveland, Ohio – A six-unit, 3-story townhome development proposed by local builder John Hill Construction, to be located at 200 Railroad Avenue within the Historic Preservation District Boundaries, was determined to be “inappropriate” for the neighborhood on Wednesday, March 5. The proposed townhomes were to be adjacent to existing cottage-style homes and Nisbet Park on the Loveland Bike Trail in Historic Downtown Loveland. The proposed project encompasses two vacant parcels consisting of .229 acres.
A meeting was held by the Historic Preservation and Planning Commission, who voted unanimously, to reject the proposal.
The Commission recently approved the demolition of an existing historic home on the site.
These LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV videos are from the meeting. The first is the presentation made by the construction company about their proposed project. The second is the public comments made during the meeting. The third video is the discussion of the Commission and their rationale for deeming the project “inappropriate” for the immediate neighborhood.

Loveland, Ohio – I arrived at the Loveland “Whippy Dip” this morning with snow flurries flying in 20 degree temperature to record an interview about cold stuff, that will warm everyone up. Loveland has had snow on the ground continuously since January 6. The Loveland Dairy Whip will open for their 2025 season on February 28 at 2 PM.
Luke and Mellissa Wiley are the new owners, buying from Terresa (Flint) Morgan and Rick Morgan who retired last Fall. The business has been at 611 West Loveland Avenue since 1972. The Morgan’s decided they would not sell unless they found buyers who would keep the business essentially unchanged, especially the menu and the Flint/Morgan traditions. The Dairy Whip is Located In Loveland’s West Loveland Historic just 4/10 tenths of a mile west of the Loveland Bike Trail.
Watch this LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video as Luke and Mellissa talk about the happenstance of purchasing the Dairy Whip and the few things they will add that are sure to please many customers.

Loveland, Ohio – I met Scott and Brandon Fair the father and son duo of Scott Fair Painting Service in the early stage of their restoration work on Loveland’s iconic Loveland B&O Railroad Depot. The 117-year-old depot is owned by Martin Schickel and is located right on the Loveland Bike Trail in Historic Downtown Loveland.
Scott and Brandon won the contract to re-paint the exterior of the Loveland landmark and told me about their approach to working on a building with historic importance.
Loveland, Ohio – The City of Loveland’s Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony was on Monday, May 27. The event started with a parade an ended with a ceremony at the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial in the West Loveland Historic District.
The ceremony featured a speech by Colonel J Scott Calder, a Loveland High School grad with a long career in the US Air Force Medical Services.
The things Col. Calder highlighted were:
• Not all combat injuries are readily apparent.
• Tales of his most rewarding military experiences.
• During his 2009 tour his unit cared for over 300 combat casualties a month.
• He honored the incredible strength of Gold Star and military families that have endured an unimaginable sacrifice and loss.
• When the injured he cared for were first able to speak, the first thing they asked was not about themselves, but of their friends. “Did anyone else get hurt?” Too often, he had to be the first one to tell the wounded soldier that their friend had died.
• Over 80% of the deaths are non-battlefield deaths.
• How to talk with the many current and former veterans that never openly speak about the pain and struggles that haunt them. Their injuries extend far beyond the battlefield. You must do the hard thing beyond just asking, “How are you? Persist! Your efforts will not be wasted and you may send them on a path to healing.
• We owe a special debt to the Gold Star Families. Thank the families who gave so much.

Tim sat down with BCBDD PR Coordinator Cassie Mattia to talk about his disability and how he has overcome so many obstacles along the way. Tim is thriving and wants nothing more than to use his voice to help others with developmental disabilities achieve their goals!”

LOVELAND, OHIO – This LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video features David Miller with Loveland Magazine and Linda Bergholz the Executive Director of the LIFE Food Pantry. It was recorded on April 4, 2024 in the new space the LIFE Food pantry has acquired in Shoppers Haven Shopping Center for a significant expansion. Linda spoke about the need for more space and how it will allow the Pantry to better serve our neighbors in a more dignified way.
The Pantry is currently located in Shoppers Haven at 541 Loveland-Madeira Road, and the new space is next door to Ace Hardware. Clients currently wait extended times outside to be served. The new space will have a waiting room where they can wait their turn with dignity and not wait outside in inclement weather.
