[Kelly Armentrout] Hopes is to generate a wildlife friendly landscaping plan for Loveland

    Dear Loveland Magazine Readers,

My name is Kelly Armentrout, I am a Miami University graduate student and Loveland resident. I am completing a project this semester on Loveland residents’ landscaping practices. The goal of my project is to see how Loveland residents use their yard and how they feel about the wildlife that utilizes it as well.

My hope is to generate a wildlife friendly landscaping plan for our community to use. I was wondering if you could possible share the link below with all of your friends to help generate more Loveland participants. My goal is to receive at least 200 responses by November 25th.

The survey is anonymous and very short, the raw data will only be used within my graduate class. Thank you very much in advance!

Amazing Charity Race awards $65K to charities

WHAT IS the Amazing Charity Race

It is a full day of good natured competition, music and food and laughs. The race committee is laughing itself silly coming up with fun challenges. It is not a triathlon or a 5K race. It is not limited to runners or highly athletic individuals. It is a race in that it has a start and finish line but along the way it challenges the contestants in many ways. It is a fun, quirky, adventure that challenges the contestants agility, balance, coordination, strength, intelligence, problem solving skills, fine motor skills, and most important their sense of humor. You are invited whether it is to compete or join our team of over 500 volunteers.

The Amazing Charity Race started in 2005 as Loveland’s Amazing Race and has grown into one of the biggest races in the whole Cincinnati tristate area!  With a a little bit of this and a little bit of that – we make you walk, run, ride, think and do – all for the fun of it!

On September 3rd, the Amazing Charity Race held their annual awards party when checks were distributed to select charities and all of the organizations who provided volunteers for the event. Dozens of small grants are made to local groups, schools, churches, and teams that help out at the race.

Loveland Magazine is the Media Sponsor of the AMAZING CHARITY RACE.

Looking at golf and tennis at Loveland High School

    by Matt Huether

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School’s Fall sports are upon us and this week we will be previewing Mens Golf, Womens Golf, and Womens Tennis. All three of the teams had successful fall seasons last year with men and women’s golf teams bringing home an ECC championship and Womens Tennis finishing as conference runner-up.

Womens Golf will look to rebuild this year after losing two first team all-conference athletes, Alejandra Bonet and Lindsay Bachmann, due to graduation. The team has a strong upperclassmen presence with Allison Roundtree and Samantha Skarda leading the way this season. Roundtree was First Team all ECC last year and Skarda was Second Team all ECC last season. During the preseason tournament Loveland (395) finished 4th behind Kings (341), Milford (351), and Turpin (378). The team’s next match is at Kings tomorrow at River’s Bend country club at 3:50 PM.

Mens Golf also lost many players due to graduation and will also look to rebuild. Juniors Jeffery Main and Scott Henke look to lead the team this season. Main was Second Team all ECC last season and has started this season off strong shooting rounds of 70, 71, 73, and 37. Main was Medalist at the ECC preview and Anderson dual match, second at the Anderson Invitational, and sixth at the Lakota East Invitational. Main’s strong start has him at a 35.85 stroke average for the season. During the preseason tournament Loveland (322) finished 4th behind Milford (305), Turpin (320), and Kings (321). The team’s next match is tomorrow versus St. Xavier at O’Bannon golf course at 4:00 PM.

Womens Tennis is off to a strong start this season. After finishing tied for conference runner-up last year the Loveland Womens Tennis team looks to knock off Turpin who is going for their 4th straight ECC championship this fall. The team has won their first two matches and upset CHCA, who is ranked #9 in the state. The team returns most of their starters from last season with the exception of Andrea Wittekind who graduated. Some big matches coming up are Walnut Hills on September 4th, Turpin on September 11th and St. Ursula on August 29th. Lastly, the ECC conference tournament will be held on September 25th at Lunken.

Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Frog thought the Loveland Independence Day Parade was so much fun she got right in the middle of it – and did some photobombing to boot.

Most of these photos were taken from the vantage point of the Loveland Magazine office in the West Loveland Historic District. All of them were taken by David Miller and Drayton Durham.

The West Loveland Historic is on the bank of the State and National Scenic Little Miami River, home of the famous Loveland Frog, the mascot of the City.

The Loveland Tiger did not make an appearance! Word on the street is that she doesn’t go outside when the temperature is above ninety so she was spending the afternoon posing for a likeness that will be painted on an elevated water storage tank. The Frog was grateful for the “Wet Zone” provided by the Loveland/Symmes Fire Department.

Welcoming Summer at the Loveland Magazine office in the West Loveland Historic District at 514 West Loveland Avenue. The way it should be for all children.

    by Drayton Durham

Ever wish to be at the beach but never have enough money? Well, Dave Miller has brought that to Loveland. When my mom and myself drive down the street at 25 miles a hour we see Dave Miller’s/Loveland Magazine’s porch. It sticks out more than anything on the block. The beach toys floating back and forth while the summer breeze blows. That is one of the most satisfying things to see when you’re having a rough day or just driving by.

Dave Miller is making Loveland a better place one float at a time. These days we always need someone like Dave. The kinda guy to bring us up when we’re feeling down, the kinda guy that says everything will be alright. Everyone knows someone like that and Dave is the guy I know like that. Whenever you see Dave he always says hello or gives you a smile. He’s one of a kind and I’m proud to know him. He works day and night getting articles out for the people of Loveland.

I’m writing this to show my appreciation to Dave and all of his fan base.

Thank you for bringing a little piece of the beach to our little town so we don’t have to go far to enjoy it.

Mayor John Cranley: “Converting guns into weapons of mass destruction should be stopped.”

On Oct. 1, a shooter attacked a large crowd attending a country music festival in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more with the use of bump stock-equipped rifles. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is proposing a rule that would regulate bump stocks and they need YOUR input.

Mayor John Cranleyby Mayor John Cranley

    Dear Loveland Magazine readers,

“Converting guns into weapons of mass destruction should be stopped.”

That’s what I stated in support of an ordinance that banned the possession, use, or sale of bump stocks in Cincinnati — making it the first city in Ohio to do so. After the shooting in Las Vegas, I knew that action was necessary and that bump stocks — the accessories the gunman used to shoot over one thousand rounds of ammunition in mere minutes — had to be removed from our communities. And right now, we have a chance to help make not only Cincinnati, but our entire nation safer.

With an overwhelming majority of Americans calling for bump stocks to be regulated, the ATF is now asking for the public to weigh in on a proposed rule that would make bump stocks illegal. But the gun lobby is already flooding the ATF with comments OPPOSING action on bump stocks, so we need to make sure the ATF hears from you and the majority of Americans who SUPPORT this regulation RIGHT NOW.

I’m doing what I can to prevent a tragedy like Las Vegas from happening in Cincinnati and together, we can work to make our entire country safer. Leave a comment in SUPPORT of a regulation that would prohibit bump stocks right now.

SUBMIT A COMMENT IN SUPPORT OF REGULATING BUMP STOCKS

The shooter was able to effectively convert his rifles into machine guns because of bump stocks. The ordinance to ban bump stocks is an important step to make the city of Cincinnati safer, and we have a chance to make our entire country safer from gun violence. But it requires you to leave a comment: It doesn’t have to be long or complicated, just say why you’re in support of regulating bump stocks.

Thank you for taking part in this life-saving opportunity.
