Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Frog thought the Loveland Independence Day Parade was so much fun she got right in the middle of it – and did some photobombing to boot.

Most of these photos were taken from the vantage point of the Loveland Magazine office in the West Loveland Historic District. All of them were taken by David Miller and Drayton Durham.

The West Loveland Historic is on the bank of the State and National Scenic Little Miami River, home of the famous Loveland Frog, the mascot of the City.

The Loveland Tiger did not make an appearance! Word on the street is that she doesn’t go outside when the temperature is above ninety so she was spending the afternoon posing for a likeness that will be painted on an elevated water storage tank. The Frog was grateful for the “Wet Zone” provided by the Loveland/Symmes Fire Department.

  • Meet Tom Smith Loveland’s new Assistant City Manager

Meet Tom Smith Loveland’s new Assistant City Manager

    by Tom Smith,

I have been fortunate to receive an opportunity to be part of the great Loveland City team as the new Assistant City Manager.  My wife, Shuree, and I are from Layton, Utah. We have three children: Joshua, 14, Marissa, 9, and Tyson, 5. We enjoy the outdoors, motorcycles, and sports of all kinds.

I enjoy being active in the community where I have coached soccer, basketball, and served as a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

Although we are from Utah, the majority of my family resides in Pennsylvania, Virginia, with a sister-in-law in Mason, Ohio. Consequently, I am a Penn State Nittany Lion, University of Virginia Cavalier, and of course a Utah Ute. As part of my formal education I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Utah Valley University and a Graduate Degree in Public Administration from the University of Utah. I have 12 years experience in the field of public administration, including my previous capacity where I served as the City Manager.

My background is in public policy, land use, utility billing, capital asset management, planning and zoning, budget and finance, and human resource administration.

I have been an active participant in the Utah League of Cities and Towns organization (similar to the Ohio Municipal League), serving as a member of the Legislative Policy Committee and the Land Use Task Force Committee for three legislative sessions. While on those committees I worked with local officials, lobbyists, and legislators to combat against the scrutiny and continued efforts of federal, state, and third-party organizations in restricting the local government control of municipalities.

As part of my professional development, I am a member of the International City Managers Association where I am working towards receiving my Credentialed Manager accreditation. My ambitions also include becoming a certified planner through the American Planners Association.

I am very fortunate to be a part of the City’s team. This is an exciting time for the City as it continues to experience growth and redevelopment. I am grateful to be brought on as a part of this wonderful team that the City Council and City Manager Mr. Kennedy have created. I am both eager and anxious to get started and to develop my relationship with you as well as the wonderful members of this community.

  • BOZICH | Happy Homecoming for former Louisville outfielder Adam Engel

BOZICH | Happy Homecoming for former Louisville outfielder Adam Engel

Former Loveland High School star and former University of Louisville outfielder Adam Engel had a large cheering section when he returned to play the Reds in Cincinnati Monday night.

Tuesday, July 3rd 2018, 11:19 am EDT by Rick Bozich
Updated: Tuesday, July 3rd 2018, 11:55 am EDT

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WDRB) — Adam Engel had five hits in three games at Texas last weekend. He went four-for-four against the Orioles in May, flashing the tools that convinced the Chicago White Sox to draft him out of the University of Louisville in 2013.

He has homered against Sonny Gray and Carlos Carrasco. Engel also launched one of his eight career home runs in Wrigley Field. Nothing gives a young White Sox player immediate acceptance in Chicago like a home run against the other team in town.

But Monday night, in his 172nd big-league game, Engel celebrated another moment for his baseball scrapbook:

His first game against the team that Engel supported before he arrived at U of L — the Cincinnati Reds.

Check the section along the third base line behind the White Sox dugout, especially the folks wearing gray “Adam Engel 15” T-shirts. More than 150 family members and friends from his hometown of Loveland, Ohio, about 20 minutes from Great American Ball Park, celebrated his arrival. There were fans wearing Louisville baseball caps and shirts in the group, too.

The fan club will grow Tuesday and Wednesday evenings when the White Sox and Reds play the final games of the three-game series. Engel’s Mom, Lynne, said she purchased more than 250 tickets for the Tuesday game — and sold all of them.

  • A message to the Loveland Class of 2018

A message to the Loveland Class of 2018

By Loveland Superintendent Dr. Amy Crouse,

    Dear Class of 2018:

You have turned that tassel and headed out to take on the world. For a celebration of such magnitude, I turned to some classic characters from childhood that I hope you will remember as you continue to grow, as written by author A.A. Milne, for four very important pieces of advice.

    Find your Piglet.

One day Piglet tells Winnie the Pooh, “If it weren’t for you, we’d be a bit less we.”

Piglet goes on to say, “The things that make me different are the things that make me.” – A.A. Milne

Leaving the familiarity of high school and the confidence that comes with routine can be scary. But I challenge you to be “you” – to know that the things that make you different are what make you special. Now is the time to explore and showcase the amazing things that are uniquely you, and then surround yourself with those who celebrate the way you view and experience the world.

    Don’t be an Eeyore.

Winnie the Pooh tells Eeyore, “You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.” – A.A. Milne

Don’t wait for life to happen. Make a plan, and walk toward your dream. Don’t get stuck in your corner of the forest. Don’t waste time on things that do not serve you – that don’t help you move toward your goal. Don’t harbor a grudge. Don’t blame others for where you are. If you don’t like your situation, take steps to change it. Make it a priority to spend some time doing what you love and working toward your goals every day.

Have Winnie the Pooh moments every day.

One day Winnie the Pooh and Piglet were walking through the 100 Acre Wood when Pooh asked, “What day is it?”

    “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.

“My favorite day,” said Pooh. – A.A. Milne

Live in the moment. Don’t wish your life away. You’ve been saying, “I can’t wait until I’m old enough to ….” your whole life. You’ve likely said, “I can’t wait until graduation,” more times than you could count. But make time to enjoy the moments along the way. Recognize them. Be “in them.” Just stop and be present – experience it with your senses – appreciate the joy or sadness or fear and make it part of you.

    Put on the “Big Boots.”

“Christopher Robin was sitting outside his door, putting on his Big Boots. As soon he saw the Big Boots, Pooh knew that an adventure was going to happen…” – A.A. Milne

    Make your life an adventure.
