Cassie the Food Guru Visits Dolph’s Dogs!

    by Cassie Mattia

Loveland, Ohio – What do the holidays mean to you? Being from a very Italian family, during the holidays I’m always surrounded by family, friends, and a delicious yet large amount of homemade food! This is why I thought now would be the perfect time to go on my next Food Guru excursion, only this time I decided to hit up Dolph’s Dogs, a traditional yet elevated local Hot Dog Cart.

Dolph Himmelbauer moved to Downtown Loveland 5 years ago and has become a huge part of the community that he says, “Is the best, most welcoming place he’s ever lived in.” After being in the business world for several years, Himmelbauer made the decision after the Covid-19 pandemic hit to start his own business. Although he was a little unsure at first about what business he wanted to go into he knew he wanted to do something that Loveland had a need for.

At the beginning of 2021, Dolph’s Dogs came into conception! Himmelbauer came up with the idea after hanging out in Downtown Loveland late one night and realized that there weren’t any readily available food options. Himmelbauer already had a love for hot dogs so he thought why not start a hot dog business only let’s not serve them in a restaurant, but on a mobile cart! Flash forward a few months and Himmelbauer had secured a mobile cart, a few great serving spots in the Downtown Loveland area, and an absolutely delicious product.

Now, Himmelbauer is not only consistently serving his elevated hot dogs around town and selling out most weekend nights, but he is also being booked for parties and events, one of the events being Loveland’s first-ever Oktoberfest! According to Himmelbauer all the success with Dolph’s Dogs has been an absolute whirlwind and he couldn’t be more grateful for the support from his family, friends, and the community of Loveland!

Without further ado I Cassie the Food Guru brings to you an exclusive one-on-one Loveland Magazine TV interview with Dolph Himmelbauer, owner of Dolph’s Dogs! There’s no way you won’t want one of these delicious dogs after watching this!

A rendering of the final layout of Ramsey’s Trailside

    by Sam Smith

Loveland, Ohio – On July 20th, Paxton’s Grill, one of Loveland’s most popular restaurants, announced the name of their new soon-to-open sister restaurant: Ramsey’s Trailside. Located on the bike trail in historic downtown Loveland, Ramsey’s Trailside will focus on lighter-fare, diverse dining with outside and rooftop seating.

Ramsey’s trailside hopes to bring a healthier menu to Loveland that neighboring restaurants do not offer. While the menu is not yet finalized, it is expected to be light, grain-heavy and offer extensive vegan options along with a variety of meat-based dishes. The kitchen will feature a separate vegan grill to avoid contamination. The menu is expected to be diverse, with options for a wide range of palettes.

“I think it brings a fresh, clean option from a dining experience and a place that the menu is going to be varied enough that the carnivore and vegetarian can coexist,” Kevin Egan, a partner at Paxtons and Ramsey’s Trailside, told Loveland Magazine in a video interview.

Ramsey’s Trailside will be located near Nisbet park along the Loveland Bike Trail. It will feature shaded outside dining and something new to downtown Loveland: rooftop dining. A porch will allow patrons to view the trail and city from a unique vantage point.

The new restaurant’s name, like Paxton’s Grill, comes from local history. William Ramsey, the son-in-law of Lt. Colonel Thomas Paxton, purchased the 189 acres that were later named Loveland. Their namesakes can be found around the city, and the new restaurant will continue William Ramsey’s legacy.

Ramsey’s Trailside will be located on the block that partially burnt down on Memorial Day in 2017. Neighboring buildings were entirely engulfed in flames and largely destroyed. It took six hours for the fire to be extinguished. Nobody was injured in the fire, and the damage to Paxton’s property was relatively minimal.

Ramsey’s Trailside (left) and Tano’s (right) continue construction after the devastating fire over a year ago.

At the time, Paxton’s short-lived diner, Bike Trail Junction, closed due to water and smoke damage but will reopen as Ramsey’s Trailside. Bike Trail Junction was planned to be a temporary restaurant until Ramsey’s Trailside was ready to open.

“We knew at some point we were going to have to do an extensive remodel to put in a real kitchen but we didn’t want to be closed down during that summer so we opened Bike Trail Junction to get us through the summer and fall seasons,” Egan explained.

A Loveland Strong poster, covered in signatures from residents, leans against the wall of Ramsey’s Trailside. Loveland Strong was a community effort to support business owners and individuals affected by the Memorial Day weekend fire.

Ramsey’s Trailside has already secured some management and will begin hiring individuals soon. Those interested in working at the new restaurant can speak to managers at Paxton’s(513) 583-1717

Ramsey’s Trailside is expected to open in mid-September. The address is 200 West Loveland Avenue.

    “Shear” Luck Coming Soon

LOVELAND, OHIO – A new hair salon will open soon on Loveland Madeira Road. Loveland residents, Ann Setty and Amy Miles hope to be open in two weeks, depending upon when their State inspector returns from vacation.

“Shear Luck Salon” will be in the 910 Building on Loveland Madeira Road across from the Loveland Elementary School.

Ann and Amy had gone to beauty school together eleven years ago and worked together in their first jobs after school. They had located a place for their business in Mainville, but things just weren’t going well.

One day while driving through Loveland on their way to look at equipment for new salon, Amy saw the “for lease” sign in the window at the 910 Building and, “She pretty much drove off the road pointing to it,” Ann said.

Both said it was “sheer luck” they found the empty space – thus the name “Shear Luck Salon.”

Ann said, “I almost got whiplash as she drove into the parking lot.” But, not having luck in Mainville was a blessing in disguise for us.”

Ann and her husband, a life long resident of Loveland, purchased a 105 year old home on East Loveland Avenue three years ago and have three teens in the Loveland High School. Ann said they have had lots of help with the complete renovation of the space from their families and friends.

The pair will cut and style hair for women, men, and children. They can be reached at 583-9900.
