    [VIDEO] A national ritual: 5 LHS Student-Athletes on “National Signing Day”

    Loveland, Ohio – On November 9th the weather outside was more Summeresque than almost winter. Inside the Chuck Schmidt Auditorium at Loveland High School, the reception for student-athletes was even warmer as proud parents, school staff, coaches, and fellow athletes gathered to witness the signing of letters of intent to further academic and athletic careers at institutions of higher learning.

    Claudia Bow finds comfort in the wonder of the cosmos

    Loveland, Ohio – These are some photos of the full moon resident Claudia Bow took in May and October. She told Loveland Magazine, “Astronomy is something I became interested in during this past year. I have developed a great love of space and the universe, and have become fascinated with observing.”

    This has become a hobby that means a lot to Claudia. She said, “I find comfort in the wonder of the cosmos.”

    These photos were taken using a Polaris reflector telescope, a non-digital manual telescope that uses mirrors and lenses only, and an iPhone 12 held up against the optical lens. Claudia said that she edited the color and clarity using the iPhone to get the effects you see here.

    “I hope to continue observing and taking more photos of space and all of its wonders,” Claudia said.

    She is a graduate of Loveland High School and is a senior at Northern Kentucky University, studying music education. She plays five musical instruments.

    Loveland, Ohio– Taps Across America is the National Moment of Remembrance and annual event that asks Americans, wherever they are at 3 PM local time on Memorial Day, to pause for one minute to remember those who have died in military service to the United States.

    The time was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying time off from work for the national holiday. The Moment was first proclaimed in May 2000 for Memorial Day that year and was put in law by the United States Congress in December 2000.

    Loveland resident Steve Bow played Taps at the site of the newly restored WWII Honor Roll in the AM during its dedication following his walking in uniform in Loveland’s parade and playing at the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial during the annual service there.

    Steve is the Assistant State Director of Bugles Across America which provides “live” Taps whenever veterans need to be honored. They never charge a fee for the service.

    He returned to the honor roll at 3 PM to participate in Taps Across America. After playing, Steve cupped his ear and said to the small gathering, “Someone is playing Taps.” As he listened more intently he pointed to the Veterans’ Memorial just down the street and off he went.

    At the memorial, he met Steve Pride who was also participating in Taps Across America. Pride and his wife decided to drive around playing Taps and ended up in Loveland a few minutes past 3 PM. Pride who lives in West Chester is a trumpet professor at Miami University and is 2nd Trumpet with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He has played with the orchestra for forty-one years.

    Steve Bow’s daughter Claudia, a Loveland High School graduate now studying at Northern Kentucky University, and also a participant in Bugles Across America, recorded the “Echo Taps” you will see in this LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video.

    Hamilton County Health Commissioner to retires after 27 Years in Office

    Hamilton County, Ohio – Hamilton County Health Commissioner Tim Ingram has announced he is retiring from Hamilton County Public Health to pursue other opportunities. He is being replaced on an interim basis by Assistant Health Commissioner for Environmental Health Services, Greg Kesterman.

    “It has been an honor and privilege to lead this agency,” Ingram said.  “Our staff is top-notch, passionate about their work and dedicated to customer service. We’re in a much better place that we were in 27 years ago.” Ingram says he is considering opportunities in teaching, health care and continuing to work with the disease of addiction, in addition to enjoying family time, travel and other activities.

    According to Hamilton County Board of Health Chair Jim Brett, “Tim’s leadership has advanced this agency light-years from where he began. Under his leadership, we have seen numerous awards, national and international recognition. The Board of Health thanks Tim for his leadership and expresses the utmost confidence in interim commissioner Kesterman. Under Greg’s leadership, we will continue to advance what we feel is one of the best public health programs in Ohio – and beyond.”

    Kesterman is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and received a master’s in public administration from Northern Kentucky University. He began his career as a sanitarian in the agency’s Environmental Health Division, moving up to division director before assuming the role of assistant health commissioner.

    “I am most excited to lead this team,” he says.  “This is an incredibly important time in public health, as our global society necessitates new approaches to public health and safety. We are well positioned in Hamilton County to take on challenges, as we continue to expand our work on the disease of addiction, ensure the safety of our food service, and maintain sanitation for our focus areas. We have a world-class staff and I can’t wait to get going!”

    Ten seniors commit to continuing art studies in third-annual ceremony

    Loveland, Ohio – It was a celebration of the arts for 10 Loveland High School (LHS) seniors, their families, their friends and their teachers at the third-annual LHS Fine Arts Signing Day Thursday, May 3. Each student gathered in the LHS Gymnasium to make their commitment to their passion official, and LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV was there to bring it to our readers.

    “It has been a joy to watch each of these students grow as artists during their time at Loveland High School,” said LHS Principal Peggy Johnson. “We are so excited for them to continue to pursue their passion for the arts at the next level.”
