Looking for a Fun Summer Art Camp?

The Loveland “All About Art” Summer Art Camp, which is sponsored by the Loveland Elementary PTA, has been holding art camps every summer since 2005, serving Loveland area school children in Kindergarten through 8^th grade. Several talented certified art educators with years of classroom teaching experience have helped run this camp over the last 15 years. Art projects and art adventures center on a new theme each year. Our theme this summer is “Spaced Out” and will be taught by art teachers, Jennifer Drydyk, Aly Mardin, and Kim Richardson.

This year’s camp will be held during the weeks of June 14^th and June 21^st.

Our art camp is a great way for young artists to extend their artistic learning into the summer months by enjoying visually enriching adventures and experiences as they explore the many intriguing aspects of art through sculpture, painting, drawing, mixed-media, printmaking, video, marbling, and so much more!

This year only-we are opening up art camp to 9^th graders. These students were part of last year’s 8^th grade class who missed out on their last year of eligibility when camp was canceled due to Covid.

Although the camp is sponsored by the Loveland Elementary PTA, the camp is available for all children regardless of the child’s school district. However, Loveland City School children will have priority registration. Covid safety protocols will be followed during art camp. Students and instructors will be required to wear face masks, socially distance, and use proper hand washing.

Miami Township, Ohio– Katie Fackler is a 2017 graduate of Loveland High School and is currently finishing her junior year studying Environmental science at OSU. Her mom Cindy said that Katie loves nature, especially birds, and has a passion for creative arts. Katie painted this picture of a Carolina Wren and the back yard of her parents’ home two weeks ago.

Cindy said, “We have many birds in our backyard but our favorite is the Carolina Wren whose song brightens our day.”

Milford’s 13th Annual Art Affaire set for September 22
Premier art and fine crafts show features an outstanding array of art, music, food

Milford, Ohio – The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS), in association with Lykins Energy Solutions, will present the 13^th Annual Art Affaire – Milford’s premier art and fine craft show – on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 11 am to 5 pm. This event is free and open to the public and will be held, rain or shine, on a closed three-block section of Main Street (U.S. Route 50) in historic Milford, Ohio 45150.

“Art Affaire is a primary fundraiser for GMAHS,” comments Donna Amann, administrator, GMAHS. “We are extremely pleased that the show continues to grow, our sponsors stay committed, and the community embraces this magnificent display of local and regional art. The Main Street venue in historic Milford is also very special, as it allows us to showcase artists as well as feature the quaint shops and cafes on the street.”

The 2018 Art Affaire call to artists generated a record-number of applications. “We received our largest-ever number of applications with nearly 40 percent of those from artists new to Art Affaire,” says Mary Ward, artist coordinator, Art Affaire. “We are definitely pleased with the quality and diversity of this year’s participating artists.”

The 13^th Annual Art Affaire will feature:
- A record-breaking 120 juried local and regional artists exhibiting and selling original works in clay, digital art, drawing, fiber art, glass, jewelry, leather, metalwork, mixed media, painting, paper and print making, photography, sculpture, wearable art and wood.
- A number of demonstrating artists, including the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild; Wade McCarren and O’Neal Johnston, wood carving; June Ludwick, pine needle baskets; John Middick, drawing; and more.
- A variety of strolling musical entertainment including Civil War guitarist, Steve Ball; Bear Foot with Russ and Barb Childers featuring Appalachian music and storytelling; Kevin Moran, Americana music; Lars Noble, country music; Roaring 20’s Barbershop Quartet; and Wild Carrot with American roots music.
- Food by 20 Brix, Harvest Market, Lehr’s Prime Market, Padrino Italian and Tickled Sweet; and wine and beer from Lehr’s Prime Market. The event will feature two hospitality tents where visitors can relax and enjoy refreshments.
- A Community Cultural Tent featuring local and regional arts-related organizations including Artsy Fartsy, Cincinnati Art Museum, Clermont Chorale, Clermont County Public Library, Historic Milford Association (HMA), Milford History Library, Milford Theatre Guilde and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)/UC Clermont.
“Art Affaire continues to enhance its growing reputation,” says 2017 Art Affaire Best of Show winners and jewelry artists, Aaron Rubinstein and Haguit Rubinstein-Towler. “The 2017 show was our first participation in Art Affaire, and we were extremely pleased with the overall quality of art and the excellent event organization. We are excited to participate again in this year’s Art Affaire and look forward to seeing return customers.”

The Greater Milford Area Historical Society, Inc. (a 501c3, non-profit) was founded in 1967 with the purpose of emphasizing the history of Milford. City Hall jumped the gun in announcing Athletic Boosters will pay for school logo on water tanks

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland Athletic Boosters (LAB) President Jeff Williams said his phone “blew up” moments after Loveland Magazine published the story, Loveland Athletic Boosters may pay to add school logo to water tanks.

Almost immediately, he immediately emailed Loveland Magazine and said, “LAB has not agreed on doing the water tower. I received a text message that you reported that LAB is paying for the painting of the water tower. That would not be accurate.”

Background

The story was generated from a memorandum to City Council from Clerk of Council, Misty Cheshire about awarding a contract for painting and maintenance of two City water tanks, one in the White Pillars subdivision and one in the Loveland Commerce Park. The memorandum said, “Jeff Williams has been consulted and he has verbally agreed that the Loveland Athletic Boosters will fund $12,200 total for painting a logo on each of the two tanks.” Trouble is it was not true.

In addition, in the packet of information included in the agenda for the June 26 Council Meeting is a piece of legislation for Council to consider – a “Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract with Utility Service Co., Inc. for the 2018 Commerce Park and White Pillars Tank Maintenance.” A whereas clause in this formal document reads:

WHEREAS, the Loveland Athletic Boosters has verbally agreed to fund $12,200.00 for the painting of the school logo on each tank, which was bid as alternates number one and two.

Getting closer to the truth

Following the email from Williams, Loveland Magazine emailed Loveland City Manager Dave Kennedy about Williams concerns. He said, “No we did an alternate bid for them to add their logo to one or both towers but they have not agreed to anything yet. We gave them the cost but it would be separate from the contract to paint the towers.”

After showing Kennedy the City documents that stated as fact that Williams had made the verbal commitment and asking the City Manager to clarify, he emailed back saying “Based on the information in the packet your reporting was accurate. At this point they have not committed and I should have corrected that memorandum and legislation. That was my mistake. I will contact Jeff and explain the error.”

Williams said that he did discuss the painting project with City officials, but at the time no one knew what it might cost. He was told that the City would put the cost of painting the school logo into the bidding documents as an “alternative” bid item and when the bids were received they would let him know. Williams did receive the estimate for $12,200, but said, that’s where the discussion ended. “It was my intention all along to see if I couldn’t raise the money separately by making a few phone calls to some people I thought might be interested in helping with such a project.” Williams said he had often used this approach for the millions of dollars he has helped raise for school projects, giving potential donors a specific project to donate toward and avoiding dipping into LAB general funds.

At the June 26 council meeting, Kennedy announced he removed the language from the Resolution about Williams giving the verbal commitment. Council then voted 6-1 to approve the ordinance which will result in painting the City Logo on the tanks, and the school logo – if the Boosters later decide to donate $12,200. Angie Settell voted against the expenditure.

Opposition from Loveland’s neighbors

Miami Township residents, Bob Rutter and Lisa Proctor who own homes near to the White Pillars elevated water tank spoke at the council meeting against painting any logos on the tank. The tank is now free of any advertising and they do not want any because of aesthetic concerns and the potential to lower property values. They commended the City for painting the tanks because of their deteriorating condition, however, want the tank in their neighborhood to remain the sky-blue paint color it is today so it blends with the sky.

Proctor says, “Loveland should not spend $6,100 per logo to spread ill will with these communities that would prefer to not have attention called to the tower.”

Loveland Athletic Boosters may pay to add school logo to water tanks

Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Athletic Boosters, via President Jeff Williams has verbally agreed to fund $12,200.00 for the painting of the school logo on the elevated water storage tanks located in the Loveland Commerce Park and the White Pillars subdivision. The proposal is on the Tuesday, June 26 Council meeting agenda.

The tanks at the Commerce Park and White Pillars will soon undergo routine maintenance and an exterior overcoat. As part of the project, the new City logo may be painted on one side of each tank with the Loveland City School District logo on the opposite side.

Painting dedicated at the Miami Twp. Lifelong Learning Center

Miami Township, Ohio – Thursday, February 22, was a very special day at the Miami Twp. Lifelong Learning Center. Donald Wilfert, a regular at the center, donated a painting his late wife, Janet, completed in 1962. The inspiration for this painting came from the popular, “Spirit of 1776” originally known as, “Yankee Doodle”. Janet created this piece of art while she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, on the occasion of the Greater Cincinnati BoyScout Jamboree. After the Jamboree, the painting was donated to the Amelia Elementary School, the former High School. Janet’s work was displayed in the auditorium until the building was demolished to make way for the new elementary school. Donald and Janet were able to obtain the painting once again and kept it at the Wilfert Farm on Lindale Mt. Holly Road in Amelia.

After Janet’s passing on July 4, 2013, Donald brought the painting to his home. In 2018, he decided that he wanted the painting to be enjoyed for generations to come. The decision was then made to dedicate the painting to the Miami Twp. Lifelong Learning Center in loving memory of his wife.

Donald was in attendance for the dedication with his family by his side. In addition to his family, Donald had many friends on hand to witness his generosity. For many years, Donald was a regular pool player at the center and made many lifelong friends. His recent illness has put an end to his pool playing days and he is not able to attend the center anymore. This painting will ensure that the legacy of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfert will continue to influence their community.
