Join Prince of Peace for Night at Nisbet!

    by Cassie Mattia

Loveland, Ohio – Downtown Loveland is bringing another event your way hosted by local church Prince of Peace!

On Thursday, July 29th beginning at 6 PM Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (POP) will be hosting “Night at Nisbet,” an event dedicated to supporting those in the community as they pursue their dreams and reach for their goals. The fun-filled night will take place at Nisbet Park, a park located right off the Loveland Bike Trail at 126 Karl Brown Way. The park also includes an amphitheater in which local bands Watchfrogs and Pocket will be performing. There will also be “Open Mic” slots available for students to show off their talents to the community.

Pastor Lily Brondyke who is a POP intern that is currently preparing for her final year of Seminary at Wartburg, will be spearheading the “Night at Nisbet” along with help from the ELCA Open Doors Grant. Pastor Lily will be graduating in 2022 with a Master of Divinity Degree.

Pastor Lily is hoping to make “Night at Nisbet” one of the best POP events yet as she will be completing her internship with POP on August 8th just in time for her final year of Seminary. Pastor Lily will be preaching at both POP services on August 8th. A coffee and cake celebration will be held after each of Pastor Lily’s services so that the community will have the opportunity to wish her well before she leaves. POP will also be presenting Lily with a gift on her last day. If you would like to contribute to the gift you can make a check out to Prince of Peace with “Intern Gift” noted on the memo line or you can donate online.

If you are interested in celebrating Pastor Lily, the beautiful community we live in, and many local talented musical artists take a trip down to Nisbet Park for a “Night at Nisbet!”

Make a Date To Be Creative

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as we see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 24-25

This past year forced many of us to think about relationships and connections. How do we connect with our communities? How do we form relationships? The COVID-19 pandemic forced businesses, schools, churches, families, and friends to get creative about connection.  Eventually, vaccines made it possible for the pandemic to look a little different. Masks and social distancing became optional when vaccinated. Gatherings became safer.  But there’s no turning back to an old kind of normal.

At Prince of Peace, creativity became a driving force for our mission of living and loving like Jesus in the world.

We are called to think creatively about how we live and love like Jesus. We are called to consider how we build community and lift up one another. We are called to love and support each other as we pursue our dreams.

Night at Nisbet is about all of this — getting out and loving the communities in which we live. Lifting each other up and celebrating what God is doing in each of our lives.   Come together for a night of music, community, and celebration.

Nisbet Park is iconic to downtown Loveland. Situated on the bike path, within walking distance to great local food, drink, and sno-cones, a night at this park guarantees a good time. Some folks walk or run or bike on by, on their way to another spot. Some use the picnic tables for time with family and friends. There’s a playground, a pavilion, bathrooms—basically everything you could need. It’s a great place to gather people.

If you like good music, supporting local musicians, and having a good time with good people, it’s coming here to Loveland. If you are looking for something fun to do with family or friends or are excited about a different, creative ministry in an ever-changing world, pay attention to this event.   Night at Nisbet is dedicated to community and local music.

Mark July 29th at 6:00  PM on your calendar because you won’t want to miss this night! Local bands, ‘Watchfrog’ and ‘Pocket’ will be performing. And you’ll probably see some familiar faces on the stage. Open mic slots feature student talent right from our own area!

Night at Nisbet is sponsored by Prince of Peace through an ELCA Open Doors grant. To learn more about ELCA Open Doors, visit here.

Thirteenth Amazing Charity Race a success [Video]

    by Sam Smith

Since 2005, The Amazing Charity Race has brought fun and philanthropy together. Through running, cycling, walking and an array of challenges, individuals compete for the fastest time in four categories.

Parent/Child, Male/Female, Male/Male and Female/Female contestant pairs completed an all-new course starting at Paxton Ramsey Park and ending at the Valley View Foundation barn. This year’s Amazing Charity Race featured twenty challenges including hauling greased watermelons into a lake, lawn bowling and Slip N’ Slide kickball.

Over the past thirteen years, the Amazing Race has donated $600,000 to various charitable organizations both large and small and local organizations including Loveland Magazine help sponsor the event.

Watch Loveland Magazine‘s video coverage of the event:

    Produced by Loveland Magazine

    Directed/Edited by Sam Smith

Second Shooting and Drone Operation by Jack Sexton

Music: “Prologue” written and Performed by Loveland's own Ryan Mangan/Pocket
From the EP L'Appelle Du Vide.
Featuring Loveland Graduates DK Dews on bass and Drew Lowry on drums.

The 2018 Amazing Race gathered 545 participants. Although the exact amount of money raised is not yet known, according to organizer Doug Portman it has been around $70,000 the past few years. It will go to over 50 charities ranging from funding boy scout troops to bigger charities like the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

In addition to the participants, local charity organizations volunteer their time to coordinate, run water stations, direct events, ensure safety and more in order to receive donations. The Amazing Charity Race website states to prospective volunteers that the role entails “no pay, hard to define benefits and you’re already late for work”. One volunteer receives the Chief John E. Cooper Amazing Volunteer Award, earning their nonprofit $500 more than the initial donation. The winner will be announced at the awards banquet.

Loveland graduate Ryan Mangan and Pocket release second album and Delusion music video

Pocket released their first music video on Tuesday

    by David Miller,

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland 2016 graduate Ryan Mangan and his alternative rock band, Pocket, released their second album in August. The Things You Think At Night is available on Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music. Mangan self-produced, wrote and performed nearly the entire album. In collaboration with Loveland senior and Loveland Magazine writer, Sam Smith, Pocket released their first music video on Tuesday.

The Delusion music video is a mix of live action, digital and practical VFX and 3d computer renderings. The video tells a story through hands, statues and falling actors.

2017 Loveland graduate, Jacalyn Parsley is featured in the music video Delusion

The video was shot over the course of only two days on a shoestring budget and with almost no crew. The Delusion music video stars 2017 Loveland graduate, Jacalyn Parsley and was produced with help from Loveland High School seniors Ricky Vilar and Stone Taul.

“Delusion is about all the unwanted anxiety that comes when you’re falling for someone. You start to wonder if they like you back, if they feel same. After a while you kind of just get to this point of ‘let’s stop thinking about this stuff, I’m not going to figure it out right now’,” Mangan explained.

Sam Smith is a photographer, videographer and writer for Loveland Magazine and award-winning independent film producer

The video is largely based around looping, long exposure stop-motion sequences created with a device called a Pixelstick. The Pixelstick works by “scanning” across individual pixels of an image in succession and are captured by moving the device laterally in a long exposure. Smith created images and sequences that were loaded onto the tool, and then it was moved laterally hundreds of time, displaying slightly varied frames. This created the illusion of movement and a holographic-like effect that is easier seen than described. Smith said, “Yeah, it was two months of spending most of my free time editing since it was so effects heavy.”

“Honestly I don’t know much about videography, but I had seen some videos that Smith had done before and he’s just flat out amazing with that stuff,” said Mangan. He gave Smith some ideas for what he wanted the video to be like, and then he took it from there and beyond, is how Mangan described the collaboration.

    Ryan Mangan

Mangan is now a sophomore at  pursuing music production. His band’s first EP, L’Appelle Du Vide, can be found here.

“The video goes past my wildest dreams honestly. Shooting was a lot of fun as well, I’ve never done anything like this before so seeing it come from the start to the end was a very cool process,” Mangan said.

“Shooting the music video was an incredible experience. It was a lot of run-and-gun, shooting from the hip and making things up as we went along,” said Smith who added, “It was a pretty ambitious project for our resources, so we tried to embrace the flaws and go for a little bit of a low-fi look.” Smith said it was his first time doing something like this and he felt that he was able to put a lot of his own style and aesthetic into the piece. “Working with Ryan was wonderful– he gave me a great song and pretty much total creative freedom. I’m really excited to see where his career goes,” Smith explained.

In addition to being a photographer, videographer, and writer for Loveland Magazine, Smith is president of the Loveland High School Film Club, Overture Award recipient and has had work shown at festivals such as NFFTY, AAHSFF, Vidcon and Nashville Film Festival.

The video is available on the Pocket Youtube Channel. Keep up with Mangan’s new releases on Spotify, Apple Music, and Twitter. You can follow Smith’s work on Instagram and Vimeo.
