Loveland, Ohio – Making a difference is what the community of Loveland is all about and longtime Loveland resident Cindy Kessler is one of those special individuals that has done just that!
Kessler made it her mission to dedicate her time and energy to growing tree seedlings in kitty litter buckets that she then gives away for free. “Rumpke doesn’t recycle the buckets,” Kessler said, “so this is a perfect way to repurpose them in a manner that benefits the earth.”
Although Kessler does most of the growing, she also has several friends who help her bag and distribute the seedlings.
“Our kick off is Graeter’s Valentine’s Day 2-for-1 special,” Kessler shared with us, “The atmosphere is festive, plus people are just starting to get spring fever… so we give them something to do outside; plant a tree.”
Cindy Kessler grows tree seedlings in kitty litter buckets which are plentiful because Rumpke Recycling doesn’t take the buckets.
Kessler said one year she and her crew gave away 766 seedlings! The seedlings will be offered at Starbucks, Graeter’s, LaRosa’s, Lenten fish fries, and many other hotspots around Loveland.
Free tree seedlings at the Loveland Starbucks
Kessler said the Loveland community has had an overwhelmingly positive response to the free tree seedlings.
“Baristas at Starbucks said that customers show them pictures of their newly planted seedlings and thank them ‘for doing this.’ Then the baristas turn to us and thank us for making it happen. When restocking our baskets, people often start meaningful conversations, that always include appreciation for our efforts.”

The response from the community in regards to Kessler’s tree seedlings has created so much hype that Kessler decided to create an instructional website that teaches you how to grow seedlings yourself! The website is as follows: seedstotrees.org. The abundant amount of pictures and resources make the growing process that much easier to mimic.
“Truly, anyone can do this; individuals, families, groups of friends, social clubs, school classes, religious groups, businesses, etc.,” Kessler said.
A display of free tree seedlings in a local shop
“Environmental degradation is a serious problem, but every tree that gets planted is part of the solution. So, put those kitty litter buckets to good use and start growing your own tree seedlings. If a lot of people do this, the impact can be huge. Spread the word,” Kessler said.
For more information about Cindy Kessler’s tree seedlings email her at info@seedstotrees.org. You may also contact Kessler to donate kitty litter buckets.
Seeds to Trees is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to getting more trees planted worldwide, by showing individuals how to grow tree seedlings for distribution within their own communities. Whether you give away 5 seedlings or 500, you have made the world a better place!

Although Rumpke doesn’t take kitty litter buckets they just announced recently a new list of added recyclables you can place in your recycling bin. You can read about that by clicking the link below!
Loveland, Ohio – Love was most certainly in the air on Thursday in Downtown Loveland’s Sweetheart Alley as some of the sweetest people in Loveland gathered to witness the 2021 Valentine Art and Card Reveal!
Valentine’s Day of course is one of the most coveted holidays in Loveland for obvious reasons…the city has the word “love” in its name and the city has been given the “Sweetheart of Ohio” title! With that title comes a long standing tradition that dates back to 1972; Loveland’s Valentine Program. This lovely program has significantly grown over the years adding more community activites focusing on the celebration of Valentine’s Day and a NATIONALLY recognized “catchet stamping and postmark program.”
The Loveland Valentine Program includes opportunities to volunteer for various Valentine’s Day activities, the nomination of a Valentine Lady (women who have distinguished themselves in the Loveland community, school, or family endeavors and acts as the ambassador for the Chamber’s Valentine Program, while visiting local businesses, nursing homes, and schools), the Valentine Card Design Competition, the Valentine Breakfast, the Valentine Poetry Contest, the opportunity to purchase Valentine Yard “Heart” Signs, a Business Window Decorating Contest, a Kids Valentino Coloring Contest, and volunteer opportunities to stamp Valentines at the local post office as well as purchase them. Because of COVID 10 the annual breakfast has been cancelled for this year.
With the 2021 Loveland Valentine Program activites set to kick off at the Loveland Post Office on February 1st with the stamping of Valentine’s Day cards, here at Loveland Magazine we decided to share with you our loyal readers, the 2021 Valentine Art and Card Design Reveal as well as the introduction of the winning artist!
Although both the introduction of the 2021 Valentine Lady and the Card Design Artist is typically celebrated with a much larger audience the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance President, Cee Cee Collins, wanted to be sure to keep everyone safe making the reveal a much smaller gathering. The celebration included the Valentine Ladies, who were thrilled to honor this year’s and next year’s (due to COVID-19 restrictions this year the Chamber decided to give the 2021 Valentine Lady the 2022 title as well in hopes that she could be more celebrated next year) Valentine Lady, Jeannie Shumaker, several members from City Hall and the LMRCA, and the 2021 Valentine Card Design Artist Cindy Wilmes.

Click below to watch the interview!
Here is a list of the 2021 Valentine Program activities and contests you can get involved in!
Enter the 2021 Valentine Poetry Contest. Submissions are due by January 26th (Download the Entry Form >).
Purchase and send out a Loveland Valentine Card! You can purchase your card at the LMRCA Office, the Loveland Post Office beginning on February 1st, MILE42 COFFEE, the Loveland Kroger, Busy Bee Boutique, Trailside Provisions, Lemons and Limes Boutique, Blume, Alley’s Boutique, Hometown Cafe, and some local banks.
The Valentine Lady tradition goes back to 1971 when the Loveland Chamber of Commerce created a Valentine postmark. Doris Pfiester, chamber secretary at the time, mailed 1,000 Valentines for Loveland residents that had a special Loveland, Ohio postmark that year and was referred to as the “Valentine Lady” until a formal selection process began in the 1980s.
Pfiester was named the very first Valentine Lady in 1992. The Chamber re-mails thousands of cards they receive from around the world for people wanting their cards mailed from “Loveland” with the slogan, “There is nothing in the world so sweet as Love.” Chamber president in 1972, Dr. Roland Boike, coined the phrase, inspired by Samual Johnson.
The official announcement of Loveland’s 2021-2022 Valentine Lady, Jeannie Schumaker, will occur at Loveland City Hall on January 26th.

Loveland, Ohio – Although COVID-19 is still causing Ohio’s High Schools to be cautious, OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) announced in their routine Thursday morning meeting on the 14th that they voted in favor of making adjustments to the 2021 Ohio High School football regular-season schedules.
In May of 2020, OHSAA released that the Ohio High School Football Playoffs would be expanded to 12 schools per region rather than 8. This expansion alone would increase the number of football playoff qualifiers from 224 to 336. To read more about how the new playoff format will work click the following link: https://www.ohsaa.org/Sports/News/ohsaa-to-expand-football-playoffs-in-2021.
With the approval of the playoff expansion, the 2021 regular Ohio High School football season will begin a week earlier. Now schools will be allowed to execute two of the mandatory five “acclimatization” days in July. Practices are officially able to begin on August 1st.
Before the first day of the regular season for Ohio High School Football, which is on August 20th, teams will be able to participate in two scrimmages or jamboree games that can take place between August 6th-14th. The conclusion of the regular-season schedule will be on October 23rd followed by six weeks of playoffs.

Loveland, Ohio – The Holiday season is here which means giving back is at its peak here in the Sweetheart of Ohio!
Recently Editor in Chief David Miller spoke with Loveland’s City Manager David Kennedy and Lisa Craig, the City of Loveland’s Utility Billing Clerk, in which they informed Miller that an anonymous donor settled 28 past due water bills. The total donation was nearly $7,000! Although the donor wanted to remain anonymous, the donor himself asked if we would share this information in hopes that other “copycats might do something similar.” The donor said in an email, “The more people that can help, the better.”
Kennedy said that in his 36 years of government employment he had never experienced anyone doing something so generous.
Loveland City Manager Dave Kennedy
Kennedy told Miller in a phone conversation that Craig worked with the private donor all week to help identify those community members that had been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He’s overpaying each account by $100, so each of them are going into the new year with a credit of $100,” Kennedy explained to Miller, “He wanted to remain anonymous, but he thought if there was a way to get the word out, maybe other people would help. It ended up being 28 accounts that he picked to help these people out. The private donor worked hand and hand with Lisa Craig, herself a long-time Loveland resident, and our utility billing clerk to do this. She could not have been more impressed with what this person did.”
Craig was also very much touched by this anonymous donor’s generosity.
‘He was looking for people impacted by the pandemic that were really trying to make the effort to set up payment plans with us,” Craig said, “When he first called he said that he had heard something on the news about someone doing this in another community. He and his wife were inspired to do something for people living in Loveland. They wished to remain anonymous, but was hoping that going public with the story without disclosing his name would inspire someone else to help out.”
Inspired and want to do your own holiday good deed?!
Craig told us that all anonymous donations sent to them would be applied to where they felt it would be needed the most! Craig also informed us that anyone who sent a check would remain anonymous.
So where can you send your anonymous donation?
“I hate to put out a number, but I know there are people really struggling to make it,” Craig said, “We really don’t want to shut anyone’s water off. Especially this time of year. Any time of year is hard. But this time of year, and with the struggles of twenty-twenty…need I say much more!”
Anyone wishing to be a copycat donor can reach out to Lisa Craig at 513-707-1451 or email Lisa Craig at lcraig@lovelandoh.gov. Lisa may be able to take your donation “on-line” with a credit card.
You may also send a check to City Hall. Please address to “City of Loveland, 120 West Loveland Avenue, Loveland, Ohio, 45140.”
If you would like to reach out to City Manager Dave Kennedy you can do so by phone at 513-707-1454 or email at dkennedy@lovelandoh.gov.
City Hall office hours are Mon-Fri 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Tiger Nation let me introduce you to Our @ViviClayton AKA ViVi! Vivi is a team-first guard willing to do whatever her team needs! Greatness is already in your DNA kid, go ahead and put it on display for all to witness! Orange and Black looks good on you Viv!#OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – What have you and the Tigers been doing in preparation for this season?
Coach Parker – Preparation for this season started over the summer with our team lifting and conditioning sessions, as well as our super popular 6 A.M, Breakfast Club workouts. This is a great time for our kids as we start forming bonds and shaping the identity of this year’s team!
She had her coming out party against the number 1 team in the state last year and Our Miss @EarlyJosie is hungry for more! Ultra competitive guard with a knack for slicing through defenses! Remember the name folks, get your ready! #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – What effect has COVID-19 had on your preparation?
Coach Parker – Keeping our Student-Athletes safe is our top priority. Each player, coach, and member of our program is diligent in following the guidelines set by our District and the OHSAA. Our kids have done a great job adjusting and it hasn’t affected our preparation too much.
No better place to start than with the Captain @JennaBatsch aka STRETCH! Don’t let the smoothness fool you, the Kent St commit is an absolute BEAST on the court! It’s her time to shine bright! #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – Who are some of the players that are returning? Any starters? Who do you expect to be a captain or “leader” for the other ladies to look up to this year.
Coach Parker – SR-Jenna Batsch(Kent State Commit, Second leading scorer last year 11ppg)-Captain, SR-Tess Broermann(4-year starter 6.3ppg last season)-Captain, SO-Olivia Raby(Lead the team in FG% 52% 3.5ppg), SO-Josie Early(3ppg, Strong tournament run last season), Jr-Nia Kemper(PG Transfer from Wyoming 14ppg, Excellent shooter and defender), Jr-Vivian Clayton(G Transfer from Sycamore 8ppg, Great Defender and strong guard attacking the basket).

Cassie – Any big games you and the team are looking forward to?
Coach Parker – We always enjoy the matchups with Walnut Hills and West Clermont. They have been the Gold standards in the league for a lot of years. This year we add three new teams in Little Miami, Lebanon, and Winton Woods. Starting new rivalries with these schools will be fun!
LIV!!!!! Big sis may be gone but the Raby legacy continues! Our @Olivia_Raby_ established herself as a big-time rim protector last season and this Summer added to her offensive game! Don’t take my word for it though, just enjoy the show #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – What will be some of your primary focuses or things you would like to improve on from last season this year?
Coach Parker – This season we will really focus on sharing the basketball and attacking opposing defenses from a lot of angles. We have 6-7 girls that could get double digits points on any given night and as a coach that is very exciting! Defensively our pressure is going to be suffocating and we are going to be able to pressure teams for 32 minutes or more if necessary!
I call her Laverne(inside joke) but Our @Yeager_Rachel15 is coming off of a solid Summer and ready to make her mark! You won’t find many who work as hard as Yeags, and that hard work is starting to pay dividends! Watch out Tiger Nation she’s ready to explode! #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – Will the coaching staff be the same as last year or do you have any newcomers?
Coach Parker – We return our entire coaching staff from last year. Really helps with continuity.
Salute to the next in a long line of great #24s Our Miss Twitterless Gabby Saletta! The freshman is Lightning Quick on both sides of the ball and a ton of toughness after spending the fall on the pitch! Keep working Gabs! You got Next! #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – Do you have any Freshmen or Sophomores that you are expecting big things from this season?
Coach Parker – Josie Early and Olivia Raby received significant minutes and experience as a freshman last year. They are going to be a big piece of the puzzle this season!
Tiger Nation allow me to introduce a NewComer to the program Our Miss @NiaKemper4 AKA FLEEK! Don’t Blink because if you do the ultra-quick sharp shooting PG will be gone! Don’t let the smile fool you she’s looking to take Someone’s lunch money on that Court #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – What are some of your personal coaching goals this year? Team goals?
Coach Parker – Personally my goals have shifted based on my health situation. Every day that I am able to spend with my team is a blessing! When I am physically able I want to be with the team. I draw energy from them. The team really wants to defend out ECC crown and get back and when a District title. The community has really rallied behind myself and this team, I really feel we are destined for great things!
We play in the present but the future looks bright especially for Our @HannahPawlikow1! This is one tough Freshman who doesn’t mind mixing it up in the paint! Excited to watch her develop in the next 4 years!! #OurWay – Coach Parker
Cassie – Will you be competing against any schools that you haven’t competed against in the past or haven’t competed against in quite some time? If so what teams?
Coach Parker – As Mentioned above we will start playing the new teams in our conference. We also open up with Lakota East who we haven’t played in recent times.

Loveland, Ohio – It’s that time of year again to honor the L.H.S student-athlete Seniors as we send them on their way to play collegiate sports at the conclusion of this school year!
L.H.S’s National College Signing Day was held on November 12th at 2:30 PM, in the legendary Tiger gymnasium. Although the Loveland Athletic Department tried to make the ceremony as normal as they could for the student-athletes they did send out COVID-19 safety precautions so that everyone attending would feel as comfortable as possible. Below are some of the safety precautions L.H.S took for the National Signing Day ceremony:
1. Athletes, please e-mail Ms. Brulport the number of family members attending. We need to know this for seating and contact tracing.
2. Your family and student-athlete will be assigned seating in our Main Gym Bleachers. Please look for the placard with your child’s name on it. You will be socially distanced from other families.
3. No congregating is allowed prior to, during, OR after the ceremony. All families must leave immediately following the ceremony.
4. Face coverings ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES.
5. No group photos of the student-athletes together is permitted. Only pictures of the student-athlete, with their family, will be taken.
6. There will be NO student body allowed. This is for immediate family ONLY, plus 1 coach.
The L.H.S National Signing Day ceremony turned out to be quite the event as the Tiger student-athletes’ coaches, parents and family members celebrated the Seniors’ achievements and wished them the best of luck in their future college endeavors! The following Senior student-athletes signed to participate in athletics and get a college education in 2021!

Columbus, Ohio – COVID-19 has yet again claimed another college sporting event as the football game between No. 3 Ohio State University and the University of Maryland, which was scheduled for tomorrow at 3 p.m. in College Park, Md., televised on the Big Ten Network, has been canceled. The game will not be rescheduled.
Earlier this week the University of Maryland put out a press release saying that they would be hitting the pause button on all team activities because of the rise in COVID-19 cases. Maryland’s press release said that “the joint decision to pause football activities and cancel Saturday’s game was made by Director of Athletics Damon Evans and University of Maryland President Darryll Pines, following a recommendation from University health officials, and in consultation with the Big Ten Conference.”
According to the Maryland press release, during the past seven days, eight Maryland Football players have tested positive for COVID-19. Maryland Athletics released a testing update stating that between September 30th and November 10th 1,510 on-campus PCR screening tests were conducted for student-athletes in all sports. 10 student-athletes tested positive.
The Big Ten Conference started testing football student-athletes on September 30th and the men’s and women’s basketball team on October 26th. All other student-athletes will continue to be tested weekly.

Batavia, Ohio – Clermont County will be bringing vintage baseball to a city near you! It was announced on October 26th in a press release from The Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau that they would be partnering with Olympic Fields to host the 2021 National Showcase of Vintage Baseball. The prestigious baseball event is scheduled for June 12th and 13th of 2021.
The Vintage Baseball theme is meant to represent the rules and customs from baseball clubs and origins dating back to the 1800s. The National Showcase is played using rules and uniforms from the 1850s, 1860s, and 1880s.
The respected event is set to bring in at least 40 teams from all across the United States with 15 players on each team. The baseball showcase, which will be managed by Oaks of Locust Corner BBC and Moscow Monarchs BBC, is expecting nearly 500 spectators in attendance with an estimated 650 Clermont County hotel rooms booked creating an estimated $300,000 for the county’s economy, according to Discover Clermont County’s press release. If the first year proves successful the vintage baseball event will be hosted annually in Clermont County.
There will be some differences in the way the vintage baseball games will be played compared to today. There will only be underhand throws to the batter (striker), there will be no fences, no gloves will be used, and the ball will be allowed to be played off one bounce.
In addition to all the baseball fun, those attending the baseball showcase will be able to get Cincinnati’s best food, and craft beer as well as shop at local baseball merchants and enjoy live music!
