Loveland Initiative looking for 2 project leaders to help Cool School Enrichment Program

“We are very excited about the upcoming school year and our ability to better serve our students this year.”

    by Terri Rogers,

As we move into the 2015-2016 school year, The Loveland Initiative is LOOKING FOR (2) VOLUNTEER PROJECT LEADERS investing in our children lives as we strive to make them better through educational success.  The rewards of being that person are the smiles on kids’ faces and their body language that tells you that they are proud of what they have done.

Students at Loveland Intermediate School (5th-6th grade) are getting the chance to spend time with tutors, learn life lessons and have some fun along the way.  It’s all part of Cool School and it’s possible because of the efforts of the Loveland Initiative.

The Loveland Intermediate Cool School Enrichment Program is an after-school support program designed for at-risk kids in 5th-6th grades who need individual tutoring, have behavior challenges, or who just benefit from extra help with reading, writing and math. But it does more than that. It provides attention to those students who need that extra caring and supportive touch.  High School students, college students, and members of the community freely give of their time to offer that kind of support.

Cool School meets twice a week throughout the school year, Tuesday’s and Thursdays 2:30pm-4:30pm. The program starts TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 15, 2015.

    Beauty of Asana

Lila’s Asana Class Changes & Updates

Asana, which means pose or posture, is the doorway that many of us have walked through in our path to live an inspired, conscious life. Many of us have been witness to the positive affects of this ancient practice and have gained first hand experience to its healing and mentally-calming powers.

Asana, which also means “seat” defines our inherent need “to sit” with our own inner world. It awakens in us a desire to return to our Essence, to return to Spirit. This doesn’t mean that we are to negate the physical form and accept only our spiritual Self. Rather, it means that in order to live fully, we are to ground in our body, detach from the ever-changing thought world, and clearly identify with our Spiritual Essence.

Postures are far more than an exercise or stretching regimen. Asana is a response to our intrinsic nature to look within, to investigate and discover our vast body, mind, and spirit. It is a prayer, a moving meditation, that opens us up like the warm sun opens a beautifully surrendered lotus flower.

When you practice theses sacred postures, you are brought to the present moment. You are taught how to transcend time, suffering, and separation. You awaken to your Highest Self and consciously connect to the Whole. Through asana, you embark on the path of Self-discovery, Self-preservation, and Self-transformation.

Join us at Sangha for the inner experience of asana and continue to be transformed towards love, light, and peace. Dedicate to carve out time in your busy schedule to make your Self a priority. By developing your inner consciousness, you will better equipped to manage the external world of name and form, and more quickly arrive at the place we all seek; inner peace and unwavering happiness.

Blessings on your mat and your dedication towards wholeness.

    With Om and Prem,
    Lila Saraswati

VIDEO: Bersani expresses hope for Loveland Canoe and Kayak after council meeting

Mark Bersani thanks community for their support

    canoe-and-kayak-feature

LOVELAND, OHIO – Loveland Canoe and Kayak owner, Mark Bersani took the podium again at a council meeting to talk about the possibility the business may close. This week however, he expressed optimism that he and city hall have reached a suitable compromise that will allow them to safely and efficiently operate their business as well have access to their home.

City Hall is developing a paved parking lot on property the Bersanis sold to the City and at the former McCoy Carry Out. At that time, Bersani was told by former city Manager Thomas Carroll the business could continue using the property and city hall would only develop “unstructured parking” on the land.

Bersani had recently been ordered to demolish or move his large storage barn and said the public parking lot  would not leave him with enough room to safely and efficiently load passengers on busses or canoes and kayaks on trailers. Bersani told Loveland Magazine after last night’s meeting that he will now be able to move his storage barn to his own property, however he had to get a variance to move it so close to the State and National Scenic Little Miami River.

Bersani had asked the city hall to compromise and sell him a slice of property, which has been described by City Manager Dave Kennedy as “the road to no-where.” It is Anshultz Avenue, and essentially an abandoned piece of roadway next to his home and business. The roadway goes nowhere, but used for decades as the driveway into the canoe and kayak business. Council introduced an ordinance last night to “vacate” Anshultz Avenue which would allow the business to use it, however the details of the legislation were not available last night. It will be voted on at the next council meeting.

This LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video is Bersani addressing council and talking about the support he received from the community after Loveland Magazine exclusively, broke this story.

This is the drawing Bersani presented to council last night (Click to see larger view.):
