Loveland, Ohio – It’s no secret to the Loveland community that Loveland High School is home to some of Ohio’s top athletes! The Loveland Tigers had quite the 2019 Fall sports season in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference collecting 5 conference titles, 4 Coach of the Year titles, 2 Athlete of the Year titles and several All-Conference First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention accolades.
With all of the victories and accolades, Loveland High School Athletics has put on the board for the 2019 Season thus far puts the Tigers at the number 1 spot with 62 points for the ECC All-Sports Trophy, which is one of the highest honors the ECC bestows. With the 2019 Fall sports season coming to an end there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that winning the ECC All-Sports Trophy may, in fact, be in Loveland High School’s near future!
The Eastern Cincinnati Conference released the teams, athletes, and coaches that were awarded All ECC honors on their website for the 2019 Fall sports season. Below Loveland Magazine collected the results for each Loveland High School Fall sports team that received ECC honors. At this time Football ECC awards have not been posted.

Loveland, Ohio – With Halloween just around the corner and Fall weather officially here scary movie marathons are in full swing! There is nothing better than a good scare to get you in the mood for the 31st! So you’re not sure what scary movies to add to your Halloween movie marathon? Well, you have come to the right place! Here is PART 2 of my guide to the Top 10 Best Halloween movies!
5. Lights Out, 2016, directed by David F. Sandberg and produced by James Wan, Lawrence Grey, and Eric Heisserer
The title of this film is spooky in itself because during the season of Halloween who honestly likes the “lights out?” The film Lights Out is based on an evil entity in the form of a girl named Diana. Diana meets Sophie, played by Maria Bello when Sophie is a young girl and eventually Diana dies for reasons I don’t want to give away! Diana then attaches her insidious spirit to Sophie and makes it her sole mission to have Sophie all to herself…FOREVER! Sophie’s evil conduit (a demonic spirit that attaches itself to a person or object) then begins to haunt Sophie’s daughter Rebecca, played by Teresa Palmer, and Sophie’s son Martin, played by Gabriel Bateman. The most horrifying part of this film is that Diana can only be seen or cause harm when the lights are out! This supernatural horror film is of course produced by my FAVORITE, the legendary James Wan, which means this film definitely includes some terrifying scenes that will leave you keeping the lights on long after the film’s over! Lights Out is a film that is bound to make you jump out of your seat so don’t forget to secure your popcorn!
4. It, 1990 (original), based on the Stephen King novel, directed by Tommy Lee Wallace and written by Tommy Lee Wallace and Lawrence D. Cohen, It: Chapter 1, 2017 (adaptation), directed by Andy Muschietti and produced by Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti
I honestly don’t even know where to start when it comes to this film! Let’s just address now that It was responsible for most of the nightmares I had as a kid so when it was re-released in 2017 I was definitely excited to see the film, but not excited for the nightmares to start up again! The film It, which was based on a novel written by the infamous Stephen King, begins its terrifying tale in Derry, Maine in the 1960s where an evil murderous clown named Pennywise, begins to kidnap and kill the children of Derry. When Pennywise takes a young child named Georgie, he finds himself being challenged by 7 outcast kids, one of the kids being Georgie’s brother Billy, that vow to do whatever they can to take Pennywise down for good. If being a murderous clown isn’t scary enough Pennywise can also transform himself into his “victim’s” worst fear causing the victim to succumb to Pennywise’s “light” (the film will explain what the light is) allowing Pennywise to take and keep the victim’s soul forever. This film has so many scenes that will not only make you close your eyes but also close your ears because of Pennywise’s chilling voice! The original It was the film I was first introduced to Pennywise, played by Tim Curry, and I can definitely say with confidence that I have never experienced a scarier clown in a film until It: Chapter 1, an adaptation of the original, was released in 2017. Bill Skarsgard was selected to play the role of Pennywise and to my pleasant surprise scared me just as much as Curry did in the original! The 2017 cast was also selected in a way that I thought worked just as well as the original cast. Fan favorites Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things, Sophia Lillis from Sharp Objects and Jeremy Ray Taylor from Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween all play roles in It: Chapter 1. A highly anticipated follow up to It: Chapter 1 was released in September of this year. I visited the theaters as soon as It: Chapter 2 was released and I must say director Andy Muschietti did a fantastic job transitioning the kid characters into adult characters. With Halloween just right around the corner, I don’t think there’s any better way to celebrate than by watching the entire It collection! You’ll float too….
3. Insidious, 2010, directed by James Wan, produced by Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, Oren Peli and written by Leigh Whannell
If you haven’t seen this supernatural horror film you are definitely missing out! Insidious does not follow the typical scary movie mold as it actually introduces another dimension to the viewer called “The Further.” In the film married couple Josh and Renai, played by Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, move into a new home with their young sons Dalton and Foster. Shortly after moving in their son Dalton falls into a mysterious coma that no one can figure out the cause of until demonologist Elise Rainier comes into the picture! After Renai starts to experience some of the most terrifying paranormal activity, including seeing a red-face demon hovering over Dalton, she realizes there is more to what’s happening to her son then meets the eye! This film packs in so many scares that going to bed right after watching I’ll admit probably isn’t the best idea considering Insidious primarily focuses on the idea of astral projection, which many believe is something that people have experienced in dream-like states. Though Insidious is now a film franchise as the film itself has been followed by Insidious: Chapter 2, Insidious: Chapter 3, and Insidious: The Last Key the magic of the very first film of the series cannot be denied! One of my favorite film directors, James Wan, and one of my favorite producers, Jason Blum, teamed up to create this film and if you know anything about either one of these talented individuals you know that they are experts when it comes to giving viewers scares. Again this film isn’t necessarily based on Halloween but it is definitely a fantastic post trick or treating film choice!
2. The Conjuring, 2013, directed by James Wan, produced by Tony DeRosa-Grund, Peter Safran and Rob Cowan and written by Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes
If you were able to handle all the movies on my list so far without any nightmares congratulations I am very happy you have made it this far! The film I am about to suggest you watch is by far one of the scariest supernatural horror movies I have ever seen. The Conjuring is based on a real paranormal case that the legendary paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren took on in Rhode Island in 1971. There’s nothing that makes a film more appealing, especially in the horror movie genre than sharing with the viewer that what they are watching is based on a true story, and The Conjuring is just that! The real Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are now passed, took on over 10,000 paranormal cases over their very long careers as paranormal investigators. The Conjuring film follows Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, as they get pulled into the mysterious demonic occurrences that are happening, according to the Perroni family, in their Rhode Island farmhouse. What Lorraine ends up finding to be attached to the family and farmhouse is beyond what she ever expected! This film literally has it all; great acting, great story development, great visionary moments and the scare tactics well they are off the charts! I will warn you that this movie may not be for children as it is rated R and has quite a few REALLY scary moments! Adults beware you are definitely in for a scare with The Conjuring!
Hereditary, 2018, directed and written by Ari Aster, and produced by Kevin Frakes, Lars Knudsen, and Buddy Patrick
You know the feeling when you see a film for the first time and after it has finished all you can do is sit there in utter shock and silence? That’s exactly how I felt after I saw Hereditary for the first time. This supernatural psychological horror-drama takes place in Utah where Annie and her husband Peter, played by Toni Collette and Gabriel Bryne, along with their kids Steve and Charlie, played by Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro, discover that a demon by the name of Paimon is haunting them due to Annie’s estranged mother’s death. Though the film’s plot seems quite typical the film itself is anything but typical! I will attest that some of the scenes in this film are quite horrifying and will probably stick with you in your dreams, but hey isn’t that what enjoying a great horror film is all about?! Finding this film maybe a little difficult as it was originally released at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival as somewhat of an “underground indie horror film,” but of course I did my research and I found that you can purchase this film at most stores, amazon prime video, google play and YouTube. Hereditary is number 1 on my list for a reason and that’s mainly because out of all the millions of horror movies I’ve seen not many scenes can compare to the visual horror that is displayed in this film! This horror movie is one that should be saved for Halloween night after the kids go to bed!

Loveland, Ohio – As election day quickly approaches the City of Loveland wants to be sure that all Loveland voters are not only aware but educated on the issues they will be voting on come November 5th!
If you are a Loveland resident and you haven’t yet seen a packet from the City of Loveland addressing the proposed changes to the City’s Charter, well Loveland Magazine has it all right here! Below is a short description of what you will see in the packet of proposed changes to the City Charter, how the changes came about, and why these changes are being proposed.
The 411 from City Hall:
“On the November 5 ballot, you will be asked to consider amendments to the Loveland City Charter. The Charter is our City’s constitution. It defines how the City of Loveland is organized and how it functions and can only be changed by a vote of Loveland citizens. Loveland’s first Charter was approved by the voters in 1961, and throughout the years, revisions have been made, with the last round of revisions being approved by the voters in 2003. In 2018, Loveland City Council determined that our Charter needed to be reviewed, as most communities review their charters at least every ten years. City Council appointed a Charter Review Commission on February 27, 2018, and the members met twice a month for over a year to review each section of the charter. Additional background on the proposed amendments is available on the City’s website within the Commission’s meeting minutes. The Commission accepted public comments at every meeting and held a formal public hearing on May 22, 2019, to receive public input before submitting the proposed Charter Amendments to City Council for consideration. On July 9, 2019, the Charter Amendments were presented to City Council and a second public hearing was held to receive public comments. Following the public hearing, City Council adopted Ordinance 2019-61, which approved the submission of the proposed Charter Amendments to electors on the November 5 general election ballot. The proposed Charter Amendments are presented in a format that allows you to easily see the current charter language in the left column and the proposed changes within the right column. Many sections were not subject to changes. These proposed changes are being mailed to all registered voters in the City as required by Article XVIII Section 9 of the Ohio Constitution. All Loveland citizens are encouraged to vote in the November 5, 2019, general election which will include these proposed changes to our Charter.”
Councilman Ted Phelps chaired the Charter Review Commission and we asked him to tell our readers the major changes that people should pay attention to when they review the proposal:
First, the Charter was last amended in 2003. One of the major things appearing in this year’s changes, is a requirement that at least once every 10 years, the City appoint a Charter Review Commission to review and recommend changes to Council (12.09). This way, we will hopefully avoid long periods of time passing, like the 16 years since the last revision, which tends to give rise to a back-log of changes and the inefficiencies which accompany not doing so sooner. Similarly, another change now being proposed is to require at least every 10 years, the City review its Master Plan (2.10). This too will avoid City planning becoming stale or obsolete and will help Loveland to assess and reassess its direction in a more timely and productive manner.
Another substantive change on the ballot this year seeks to address what happens when there is a vacancy in the office of Mayor. This situation arose just a few years back and the City was without a Mayor for multiple months until the general election. Under the revisions proposed to Section 2.06, that won’t happen as again as the revision makes clear that the Vice-Mayor becomes the Mayor for the unexpired term, unless the Vice-Mayor declines to do so and then Council by majority vote will select the new Mayor.
There are also proposed changes to the Director of Finance position as currently the Director of Finance is chosen by Council. The revisions (5.02, 5.06 and 9.06) will allow for the City Manager to choose the Finance Director subject to approval by Council. Removal of the Finance Director will also be subject to Council approval. These proposed changes seek to streamline matters and make more efficient not only the selection process for the Finance Director position but the changes also seek to align the Charter with the reality that the City Manager has and must continue to have a close and highly functional relationship with the Finance Director. Council maintains a checks and balances role as again, both the actual selection and any removal of the Finance Director can only be done with Council approval.
Finally, other important revisions seek to conform current roles and responsibilities of the Clerk of Council (2.08), clarify how the City is to publish ordinances and resolutions allowing for utilization of the City’s website to do so (3.04) and remove the residency requirement for the City Manager in conformity with current Ohio law (4.01). One other beneficial change is to clarify when Council begins its term of office (2.04). As you know, every two years when there is a general election, Council is to hold its organization meeting to elect the Mayor and Vice-Mayor and under the current Charter that meeting has to take place on the first Monday in December even if the recount winner has not yet been determined by the Board of Elections. The changes to 2.04 make sure that Council’s first organization meeting following the general election takes place only after the recount process is finalized.

Loveland, Ohio – With Fall officially in the air it’s hard not to start thinking about carving pumpkins, the beautiful leaves changing colors, enjoying a delicious caramel apple, or tuning in to your FAVORITE Halloween movie! For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed watching scary movies. When I was young I first fell in love with Halloween and all things scary when my mom first introduced to me the 1987 vampire cult classic, Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher. At the time Lost Boys was on tape opposed to DVD so you can say I definitely wore that tape out! From the eerie makeup and costumes to the “jump out of your seat” moments to the bizarre camera angles and music, Lost Boys hooked me on the horror genre! From there on out any time my parents gave me the option of what movie I wanted to rent from Blockbuster Video (please tell me everyone reading remembers what Blockbuster is?!) I 100 percent of the time chose a horror movie! Something about being scared just intrigued me.
My love for scary movies has only gotten stronger as time has passed and with Halloween quickly approaching we at Loveland Magazine deemed it necessary to release a top 10 best Halloween movie list! I know there are many, many, many top 10 Halloween movie lists out there so I wanted to steer clear of the “traditional” list and let you the readers in on my personal top 10 Halloween movies list! This list will not just include movies based on Halloween but will also include those movies that send a tingle up your spine! So grab a handful of candy corn, cozy up on your favorite chair and get prepared to be let in on Cassie’s Guide to the Top 10 Best Halloween Movies PART 1!
The Shining, 1980, directed by Stanley Kubrick, written by Stephen King
Well, how can you not start a Halloween movie list without a classic Stephen King film adaptation! Nearly 40 years later and this film still gives horror movie fanatics the chills, including myself! I’m one of those movie watchers that 9 times out of 10 has read the novel before seeing the film based on the novel so of course, the fact that The Shining so closely matches the novel written by the legendary Stephen King makes it even more appealing. This film takes place in a creepy historic hotel that was built on an Indian burial ground in the Colorado Rockies. The main character, Jack, played by Jack Nicholson, takes his family as he has accepted the position as the offseason caretaker to stay in the haunted hotel for the winter. Jack’s son Danny, played by Danny Llyod, has telepathic abilities referred to as “the shining,” which ends up allowing Danny to see into the hotel’s haunting past! For those who have not experienced this haunting novel adaptation, this is a MUST see classic that is guaranteed to get you in the Halloween spirit!
The Strangers, 2008, written and directed by Bryan Bertino
Typically I am pretty aware of all horror movie film releases but for some reason, The Strangers, I didn’t discover until a few years after it was released. This film shocked me in more ways than one especially when I read it was based on The Manson familyTate murders, The Keddie Cabin Murders, and a series of break-ins that occurred in director, Bryan Bertino’s neighborhood as a child. How creepy is that? The Strangers, starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, is a slasher movie that begins at a vacation home that both Kristen and James (Tyler and Speedman) are staying the night after attending a wedding. An hour or so into their stay the couple is visited by a family of 3 all wearing eerie masks and from there is where the terror begins! The masked criminals begin to toy and terrorize the innocent couple as the couple tries to find an escape route. This film is a little bit more on the intense side in regards to horror movies as it does include some gore and violence so I recommend this one for adults only! If you are searching for a Halloween movie that doesn’t follow the traditional “horror” movie pattern check out The Strangers!
Halloweentown, 1998, directed by Duwayne Dunham and written by Paul Bernbaum, Jon Cooksey and Ali Matheson
Ok, everyone, this Halloween movie is for the kids….and of course, the adults will admit they love it as well! Halloweentown, a Disney Channel Original film starring Kimberly Brown, Debbie Reynolds, and Judith Hoag, takes you into a world where it’s Halloween all year round! I mean seriously what could be better than that? The movie begins in the human world where Marnie (Kimberly Brown) eventually comes to realize her family may have a little more of the Halloween “magic” than most families! Aggie (Debbie Reynolds), Marnie’s grandmother, wants so badly for Marnie and her sister Sophie to carry on the family tradition, but Aggie’s daughter, Gwen, wants her family to have a life that is normal as possible, and that means WITHOUT magic! Marnie sneaks out of her house and takes a journey to “Halloweentown,” a place where it’s always Halloween and the place her grandma raised her mother. This film takes you on a Halloween adventure you will find yourself wanting to experience traditionally every Halloween! If you have a hard time getting into the Fall/Halloween spirit Halloweentown will be sure to do the trick….or treat!
Halloween, 1978, directed by John Carpenter and written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, REMAKE-2007, directed and written by Rob Zombie, REMAKE-2018, directed and written by David Gordon Green
You can’t have a Halloween movie list without including John Carpenter’s Halloween! This film paved the way for one of my favorite horror movie genres, serial killer slasher movies, and yes according to Netflix this is a real movie genre! If you haven’t seen the original Halloween, this movie stars one of the most iconic scream queens, Jamie Lee Curtis. Halloween is based on the notorious serial killer, Micheal Myers, who, as a child, is placed in a sanitarium for murdering his sister. 15 years after the initial murder Micheal escapes the sanitarium for one last night of Halloween terror…or so we thought! Although this movie was made in the late 70’s it still packs all the Halloween scares one needs to get ready for the big holiday!
For the more modernized horror movies fanatics, Rob Zombie released a reimagined version of Halloween in 2007, that included the gore that the original didn’t mainly because in the 70’s the special effects we have access to now weren’t available yet. This remake focuses in on the childhood of Micheal Myers, played by Tyler Mane, what lead up to the murder of his sister, played by Scout Taylor-Compton, and Myer’s relationship with his mother, played by Zombie’s wife Sheri Moon Zombie.
There, of course, was another Halloween reboot released in 2018 where Jamie Lee Curtis reenters into the Halloween franchise as her original 1978 character, Laurie Strode. This 2018 reboot, directed and written by David Gordon Green, is set 40 years after the Micheal Myers murders. Curtis in this installment of the Halloween series prepares herself and her family to take down Micheal Myers one last time! Thus far there have been 11 Halloween films added into the series and there are 2 more installments that are in the works set to release in 2020, Halloween Kills, and 2021, Halloween Ends. If you are a true Halloween fanatic I highly recommend browsing your calendar for a weekend where you can binge-watch the entire Halloween series…with your pumpkin spice latte in hand of course!
Hocus Pocus, 1993, directed by Kenny Ortega and written by Neil Cuthbert, Mick Garris, and David Kirschner
Nothing represents Halloween better than the Sanderson Sisters and if you don’t know who they are Hocus Pocus needs to be added to your Halloween watch list immediately! Hocus Pocus originally did not get the views Disney expected when it was released in 1993, making only 16.5 million at the box office. Now this fantasy comedy horror drama (yes it actually is all these genres) is considered by many, including myself, one of the best movies to watch around Halloween time! If you haven’t yet experienced the film, it takes place in Salem, Massachusetts where an ancient threesome of witches are brought back from the dead by Max Dennison, played by Omri Katz, a teenage boy who just moved to Salem with his family. Once the Sanderson Sisters, played by the legendary Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, are brought back to life they make it their mission to steal all the souls of the youth in Salem..oh and did I mention there is a black cat named Binx that talks?! If you like magic and you like Halloween you HAVE to see Hocus Pocus!

Loveland, Ohio – As Fall quickly approaches so does ECC postseason tournaments! Loveland High School Tiger teams gave everything they had this week in order to improve their ECC standings and in saying that there were some very impressive league battles! Here’s the Loveland Sports 411 with Cassie Mattia for September 16th through the 22nd!
Golf
The Loveland Tigers Boys Golf Team competed in 3 golf meets this week proving that their swings are not to be messed with! Tuesday the 17th the boys went to Wyoming Golf Course where they won 167 to 168 and on Wednesday the 18th they traveled to Mason where the Tigers won 152 to 156. On Thursday the 19th the Tigers went to Friendly Meadows Golf Course to compete against West Clermont and grabbed another victory 154 to 208. The Boys Golf Team is currently in 2nd place in the ECC with a 4-1 record. The Tigers are 9-2 overall. The golf team will continue their successful season on Tuesday the 24th at Ivy Hills against Turpin and then will compete in the ECC Postseason Tournament at Glenview on Thursday the 26th.
The Girls Tigers Golf Team competed at West Clermont on Tuesday the 17th and pulled out a victory, 192 to 228. The ladies had a great time swinging away the competition as pictured below in these tweets captured by fans of the Tigers!
The Girls Golf Team will be heading to Hickory Woods on Tuesday the 24th to face Turpin at 3:30 PM and then will turn around and travel to O’Bannon Creek Golf Club to compete against Lakota West and Ursuline at 4 PM. The Tigers are currently 2-3 in the ECC and 2-7 overall.
Volleyball
The Girls Volleyball Team had an unbelievable week of competition grabbing two wins, pushing their record to 7-1 in the ECC placing them in 1st place! The Tigers are 12-2 overall. On Tuesday the 17th the ladies played West Clermont in their home gym. The Tigers won all the sets at West Clermont 25-13, 25-21, and 25-12. On Thursday the 19th the ladies traveled to Anderson and claimed another victory again winning in 3 sets, 25-16, 25-21, and 25-21.
The Girls Volleyball Team hopes to keep their number 1 spot in the ECC this week as they will be playing Kings on Tuesday the 24th at home at 6:30 PM and Walnut Hills on Wednesday the 25th at 6:30 PM at home.
Tennis
Another lady Tigers Team that had a really successful week of competition is the Girls Tennis Team who improved their record to 5-1 in the ECC and 15-2 overall. The Tigers now hold the 2nd place spot in the ECC. On Monday the 16th the Girls Tennis Team grabbed a win against Anderson sweeping them 5-0 then the ladies turned around on Tuesday the 17th and claimed another victory against West Clermont beating them 5-0. The Tigers continued their winning streak when they played CCD on Wednesday the 18th beating them 5-0. On Thursday the 19th and Saturday the 21st the Girls Tennis Team participated in the GCTCA Coaches Classic. Although they didn’t necessarily place at the top as a team there were some fantastic performances by the lady Tigers! Freshmen Babs Dwyer and Alex Hytree placed 3rd for Second Doubles and Freshman Maira Hodar placed 3rd in Singles. The Girls Tennis Team will represent Loveland in the ECC Tournament this week on Tuesday the 24th beginning at 9 AM at Lunken.
Soccer
The Boys Soccer Team grabbed both a loss and a win this week. The Tigers still remain number 1 in the ECC with a 4-0 record and an 8-3 record overall! On Wednesday the 18th the Boys Soccer Team went to Centerville to compete unfortunately losing a hard-fought battle 3-1. On Thursday the 19th the Boys answered back with a big win at Withrow beating them 9-0. Out of those 9 goals Emmett Webb pulled off a hat trick (3 goals) all in the first half! The Tigers will face Walnut Hills at their home field on Wednesday the 25th at 7 PM and on Saturday the 28th will play Mason on the Tigers home field at noon.
The Girls Soccer Team, who currently holds the 2nd spot in the ECC with a 2-1 league record and 5-3 overall record, hosted the 1st Annual LOMO Event Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd. Both Loveland and Mason Girls Soccer Teams came together for this 2-day 10 game event! The LOMO event started for the Girls Soccer Team at 7 PM on Saturday the 21st when they faced West Jessamine, a 2 time Kentucky State Champion Soccer Team. The Girls Soccer Team was surrounded by quite the crowd as they claimed a HUGE victory against West Jessamine winning 5-0! Shraya Smolenski was the leading scorer for the Tigers kicking in 2 goals making her now 6th in the ECC as an Offensive Leader. Many action shots were caught on Twitter at the Orange Out!
The Girls Soccer Team took on Notre Dame Academy Kentucky, another premier Kentucky soccer team, on Sunday the 22nd at 3 PM at the Tiger Stadium and pulled out yet another big win, beating Notre Dame 2-0! The Tigers victory was captured on Instagram by Loveland Athletics below!
In Loveland Cheer news the team will be holding winter cheer mascot tryouts on Wednesday, November 6th from 6 PM to 9 PM and then again on Thursday, November 7th beginning at 6:30 PM. The tryouts will be held at Loveland High School.
Cross Country
The Girls and Boys Cross Country Team put on some great performances on Saturday the 21st at one of the top meets in Ohio, Centerville’s Saturday Night Lights Meet. Leading the way for the girls was Sarah Madix (3rd), followed by Ellie Carr (5th), Jessie Gibbins (6th), Ansley Richards (7th), and Nami Cannon (10th). Rounding out the top 7 were Ally Colegate (16th) and Bella Dillhoff (17th). Below are photos captured from the meet Saturday!
The Boys Cross Country Team had just as much success at Centerville’s Saturday Night Lights Meet finishing 11th out 23 teams with 335 points! The first finisher for the Tigers was sophomore Ryan Chevalier crossing the finish line for the 40th spot running a 16:35. Chevalier still holds the 4th best time in the ECC after running a 16:28 at the Loveland Invitational. Next Tiger to finish the race was freshman Brady Steiner placing 61st with a 16:52. Steiner ran his personal best time for the year placing him 8th in the ECC with his time! The next Loveland Boys to cross the finish line were senior Kyle Griffin taking the 72nd spot running a 16:59, junior Ajay Stutz in 78th place with a 17:03, senior Alex Ditchen placing 84th with a 17:07, sophomore Sam Neiger placing 89th with a time of 17:08, and rounding up the top 7 Tiger finishers was sophomore Sam Dippold placing 112th with a 17:24. 6 of the Loveland Boys ran seasonal best times placing them in the top 20 in the ECC for their 5k times!

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School is not a stranger to having successful student-athletes, but this year two Tiger teams have been taking the cross country world by storm! Loveland’s Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country Teams proved all their summer workouts paid off in both The Loveland Invitational and Mason Invite finishing both meets in the top 2 with several individual PRs.
The Loveland Invitational, which took place on the morning of August 31st at the Home of the Brave Park, turned out to be another beautiful meet with many great performances by the Tigers! The Boy’s Cross Country Team finished 2nd out of 19 teams with a total of 71 points. Sophomore Ryan Chevalier was the top Tiger finisher, crossing the finish line in 3rd place with a time of 16:28. Senior Kyle Griffin took the 11th place spot finishing with a time of 17:09, Sophomore Sam Neiger finished 12th with a time of 17:13, Senior Alex Ditchen finished 23rd with a 17:34, Junior Ajay Stutz finished in 24th with a time of 17:37, Junior Colin Beran finished with a 17:52 in 31st place and Senior Sam Dippold rounded off the top 7 Tiger finishers with a 17:57 in 38th place.
The Girls Cross Country Team ran an impressive race at The Loveland Invitational as well finishing in 1st place out of 12 teams with a score of 36 points! Sophomore Emmy Sager finished first for the Tigers running an 18:49 earning her a 3rd place finish. Finishing close behind in 5th place was Sophomore Sarah Madix with a time of 19:37, Junior Ansley Richards in 6th place with a time of 19:44, Junior Ellie Carr in 10th place with a time of 20:02, Senior Nami Cannon in 13th place with a time of 20:26, Sophomore Audrey O’Keefe in 16th place with a time of 20:36 and Freshman Ally Colegate 22nd place with a time of 20:47. After the Loveland Invitational, the Tigers Girls and Boys Cross Country Team got some state-wide recognition in the Ohio Division 1 State Cross Country Poll!
On September 7th, the Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams competed again this time at the Mason Invite. Both teams did not disappoint finishing again at the top! The Girls finished in 2nd place out of 32 teams with a total
of 120 points. Although there were 355 girls in the race that did not stop the Tigers from claiming top finishes and some PRs. Sophomore Emmy Sager finished first for the Tigers crossing the finish line in 14th place with a time of 19:10. The next Tiger finisher was Sophomore Sarah Madix who took the 20th spot with a time of 19:24, followed by Junior Ansley Richards in 23rd with a time of 19:40, Junior Ellie Carr in 28th with a time of 19:59, Senior Nami Cannon in 35th with a time of 20:12, Freshman Ally Colegate with a time of 20:37 in 48th place and Sophomore Bella Dillhoff in 73rd place with a time of 20:59. Cannon, Carr, and Madix all ran personal best times and Richards ran a season personal best time!
The Boys Cross Country also made a name for themselves at the Mason Invite finishing 6th out of 33 teams. Out of 409 runners Sophomore Ryan Chevalier finished in 18th with a time of 16:39, followed by Senior Kyle Griffin in 35th with a time of 17:03, Junior Ajay Stutz in 53rd with a 17:19, Freshman Brady Steiner in 65th with a time of 17:33, Senior Alex Ditchen in 67th place with a time of 17:34, Sophomore Sam Neiger in 87th with a 17:48 and Senior Sam Dippold in 127th with a time of 18:09. Dean Parker on the set of his upcoming short film, which has the working title The Bartender and the Drunk, coming this fall.

Loveland, Ohio – Have you ever sat down and thought about what it takes to make a great film? Have you ever wondered just how the lions in the Lion King remake look and sound so real? Did you ever look beyond the “scary” parts of a horror movie and look into why those scary parts are so effective? This is what makes a good move excellent and, well, Loveland local Dean Parker knows exactly what it takes to make an excellent movie!
Dean Parker attended Loveland City Schools where he began his journey into film making. Parker began making films at a very young age where eventually that developed passion took him to Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication to study Integrated Media Production. Dean is also a former paid intern, writing and doing videography and video editing at Loveland Magazine. Several awards and opportunities later, Parker landed himself in L.A. interning for Lifeboat Productions! After following Parker’s amazing story, I decided to invite Dean to Loveland Magazine’s One-on-One series so that he could share with our readers just how he has accomplished everything thus far! Ijust want to say before we start, Wow you have quite an impressive resume in the film industry! Where did all this passion for film and the performing arts come from? Was it passed along from your family or was it a newfound talent?
Dean – Thank you for the kind words. I don’t really know exactly where my passion entirely came from, to be honest. It’s really a mix of a bunch of things. I’ve just always liked stories and being a part of creating stories. I used to read all the time growing up and would like to write short books for fun. My dad also had an old camera that I would use to film silly videos with me and my friends. I think it’s fascinating how books, theater, and films can leave an impression on someone through the stories they tell and how they tell them. So, I think that impression stories left on me, especially through film, made me want to become a part of that industry and create. Definitely a newfound talent, for sure.
You went to Loveland High school, GO TIGERS, what did you learn at LHS that has helped you through your career path? Did you partake in any special courses at Loveland for film, if so, what were they? Brag about yourself for a minute! Share with our Loveland Magazine readers some of your high school accolades!
Dean – At the time when I was at LHS, they didn’t have the really cool video production class they just added. The only course they had was the LHSNN class, which is the school news. I was the lead editor for the news, and I had to learn how to use new editing software and how to meet deadlines on a tight schedule. That was a fun class because I got to collaborate with the other anchors on coming up with different news specials and skits. Other than that, I had to teach myself everything else. Mr. Barrett, who runs LHSNN and the video classes, was also very supportive of me especially when it came to the different shorts I was making. I was also very fortunate to meet a really cool group of friends in high school that were also interested in becoming filmmakers. We all worked on various projects together and we taught each other different things that helped us grow. In fact, those students started the LHS film club, which I believe is still around? Hopefully, it is! Beyond that, LHS let me have the premiere of two of my films in the auditorium, which was extremely nice. They were very supportive of me and a lot of the students came to see the premieres, as well as our principal and superintendent. I was very grateful to everyone for coming out to see the films.
You later made your way to the Ohio University, why did you select OU? What degree are you going for? Share with us your experience at OU and how it has helped you become the amazing film artist you are today!
Dean – My degree at OU is called Integrated Media Production, which is basically a create your own major within the media school. I selected OU because of its great media program that includes some amazing opportunities. I’ve participated in an advanced narrative production class called 419 Productions. In that class, we got to make a major short film that takes us an entire year from prepping, to raising a budget, to actually filming and editing it. Then we have a premiere at the end of the year. I have participated in many other student film sets and have learned so much from each one, mainly due to the other students who teach me different things. I also work in my school’s video equipment room and have familiarized myself with most of what we have there. And then there’s amazing our LA program, which takes students out to LA for real-world experience. All these things have helped shaped me into the filmmaker and person that I am today. I have learned so much more about the film over the past three years than at any other time in my life.
Let’s really get to know Dean! Tell us about your family! Who inspires you? Would you say your family has helped you become what you are today? Anyone in the family into film making? What were some of your favorite films growing up? Have you drawn inspiration for your films through some of your favorite films of the past?
Dean – My dad runs his own company which makes home inspection software. My mom works as a territory manager at BGR. I have two sisters, one of whom currently goes to LHS. My other sister plays soccer at Miami University. I’m inspired by Chris Martin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Damien Chazelle, and Bo Burnham just to name a few. My family has always been so incredibly supportive of me in my film endeavors. Some of them even came out to visit me in LA and I showed them around. They always watch my films and have helped me attend film festivals too, which I am very grateful for. I actually don’t have any family members that are into filmmaking, but my great-grandfather owned a drive-in movie theater so maybe that’s where I got my urge to be in the industry. Growing up, I loved Toy Story and Harry Potter movies. My favorite movies currently are The Social Network, Whiplash, Lord of the Rings, and American Beauty, just to name a few. I definitely have drawn inspiration from some of these films and into my work.
Ivisited your website deanparkerfilms.com and looked over all of your films and they are so interesting! Dean, tell us about the films that you have made and what has inspired each of them. I saw you made a film called No Love in Loveland, tell us about how Loveland inspired you to create this film. What is your favorite film you have made? What film took the longest to make? What film are you most proud of?
Dean – For No Love in Loveland, it was inspired by what I was feeling during my time at LHS, or more so during my freshman year. I thought it was interesting how the dating culture was in school and all the different ways of how quickly people got into and out of relationships. Not to mention all the crushes people had on each other and how they went about approaching that situation. Maybe it was because a lot of people knew each other at our school due to the size. It was a bizarre and funny time and I wanted to make a film that showcased that. So, I played on how our city was called Loveland to poke fun at the situation.
Regret is by far the most personal film I have made. I would like to tell you exactly how I was inspired to make that film but it’s still too personal for me to fully explain. All I’ll say is that it was inspired by a time in high school where I was struggling with the thought of something to come. Now, it was with this film that I met my good group of Loveland film friends. I needed crew members and they reached out to me and offered to help. I continued to work with those guys on my other two films after that. If it wasn’t for this film, I don’t know if I would’ve met them and I’m grateful that I did get to meet them.
Images I came up with shortly after the time I wrote Regret. I was inspired to make the film after meeting certain people and seeing how the way they presented themselves online and the image they were trying to show off was different than when I really got to know them. I’m proud of all the work we put into making that film. It was by far my most ambitious project at the time, especially due to the length and complexity of the shots. We all had a fun time working on it though, and the cast and crew got really close. I would also say it’s my most successful film so far, due to the number of festivals we were fortunate enough to be a part of.
Together was actually based on a short story a friend of mine wrote. When I read the story for the first time, I knew it could make for a good short film. I spent time talking to the writer of the story about what she intended and then putting that to film. It was exciting to interpret someone else’s story, write a screenplay for it and then bring it to life. I think that’s my favorite film I have put out so far. Currently, the film I’m editing right now is taking the longest to make (it’ll be worth it, I promise). But prior to that, it was Together. That film had some complications at the beginning of production that put filming on halt for almost two months. We scrambled to get that film shot in time before I had to go back to OU for the sophomore year. Then I had to edit it while I was at school and my roommate was using his free time to make the music. But it all worked out, thankfully.

You have collected some unbelievable awards over the past few years! What were some of your proudest awards? Tell the readers about how recipients are selected for these awards and what you had to do to be considered. You have been to a number of film festivals, which I’m sure was really exciting for you to be part of! What are some of your favorite film festivals you have attended? Have you been invited to any extremely exclusive film festivals?
Dean – Thank you again for the kind words. I’ve been very fortunate to be a part of some very neat festivals. One of my favorite festivals I was selected into was the Nashville Film Festival, which is a major festival. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to attend, but just being selected was very exciting. Being a finalist for some awards and also winning one at the All-American High School Film Festival was also great. I got to attend that festival and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I also enjoyed attending the Golden Lion Film Festival here in Cincinnati. I won the best short film award and best of fest award back in 2016, which was so crazy. That festival has greatly expanded since I was a part of it and it’s cool to see how they’ve grown. The thing is, with all the great accolades I’ve been fortunate to receive, there is actually much more losing than winning. I’ve been rejected from way more festivals than I have been accepted. This is a very common thing for all filmmakers submitting to festivals. But to me, I see it as another reason to get better with every project. Also, each festival is different and is looking for particular films to make up their lineup so that it also plays into how one gets accepted. Ok, you have been in L.A having the time of your life! You are interning for Lifeboat Productions? Tell us about your experience thus far in L.A. I saw that you got the opportunity to be at the Jimmy Kimmel show? What was that like? Talk about the new film you are producing Virtually in Love.
Dean – L.A has been quite the experience and I definitely see myself living there. Yes, I interned at Lifeboat Productions as a production office and development intern. Most of what I did there is read tons of screenplays and then provide coverage, which is basically a form of feedback. I also helped around the office by prepping the conference room, answering phone calls, greeting clients, and anything else they might’ve needed me to do. They also had me pitch a screenplay in development to the company executives, which was great practice for me.
LA is a much different world than Loveland. Way more people, buildings, and cars. In fact, there really isn’t anywhere to park. Traffic happens all the time, any hour, any day of the week. But it’s all part of the experience. And there’s always something to do. Lots of events and cool places to see. Through my school, I’ve gotten to do some studio tours like Warner Bros, and Sony Pictures. I’ve also gotten to go to Universal Studios Hollywood and Disneyland. And I’ve run into some celebrities as well. I once saw Ryan Gosling while I was out for dinner, which was crazy.
I’ve gotten to attend Jimmy Kimmel twice, actually. The most recent time I went, Quentin Tarantino was the guest and he was promoting his new movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. In fact, at one point, Leonardo DiCaprio came out and surprised the audience with an invite to come to the movie premiere. So, I went and got to see the movie a few days before it came out. I got to write and direct one of the short films for our school program while we were out in LA. The film is a science-fiction drama called Virtually in Love, which is sort of like an episode of Black Mirror. The film takes place in the near future and is about a man who is struggling to make a romantic connection in a time where everybody is disconnected due to technology. We had an open casting call and got to work with some really cool LA actors. We had a lot of tight deadlines with making the film but managed to get it done well. It was a great learning experience and made me reflect on what I know about filmmaking and how I can get better. That film will also go through a festival run for a bit and will be released shortly after.
Now is your chance to promote yourself! Tell us about your future plans! Any films or big projects in the works? Any fun opportunities?

Dean – I am currently still editing a short film I directed back in the spring that is set to come out sometime this fall. It’s currently titled The Bartender and the Drunk, but that is just a working title. We actually have a Facebook Page you can go check out if you want to follow updates on the film. I am really excited for this to be released. I had a stellar cast and crew, and this is the first short film I’ve directed where I didn’t write the screenplay. We also self-funded this film through GoFundMe and were fortunate enough to reach our goal of $2,500. Once the film is completed, I’ll be using the rest of the budget to send it off to various film festivals.
Besides that film, I’m going to keep helping out on projects when I get back to school, and my buddy and I are also looking to possibly make a short in the fall as well. After I graduate, I plan to eventually move out to LA with some friends to get started working in the “real world.”
Now let me ask you some fun, but random questions! What’s your favorite color? Who’s your favorite director? Any hidden talents? What’s your favorite food? Who do you emulate? What’s the last film you saw? Any recent films you have seen that you recommend? Lion King original or Lion King remake? What do you hope to be doing in 5 years?
Dean – My favorite color is blue. My favorite director is Damien Chazelle. I can sing, but anyone who knows me well knows that’s not a hidden talent. I can also make a really good grilled cheese apparently. My favorite food is a tough question. I like steak and calamari a lot. I’m kind of a picky eater but I’m getting better. I guess I emulate my dad. My sisters tell me that a lot. The last film I saw was The Farewell, which I recommend. I also recommend Booksmart, and Toy Story 4, which is my favorite film of the year so far. I’d definitely pick the original Lion King; the remake was not good at all. In five years, I hope to be working in LA on or at least starting to work on my own feature film, whether or not done independently.

Dean was the script supervisor for the Flat Pop Productions short thriller-comedy: Wake Up Mark. The film is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2019. The film is directed by Michi Heckler.

Loveland, Ohio– With the beginning of a new school year quickly approaching, Loveland’s top athletes have been working hard all summer to perfect their craft! Over the past few years, Loveland High school has become a powerhouse when it comes to sports, producing both collegiate and professional athletes. Well, Loveland High school has done it again! Her name is Jillian Hayes, a 6’1 multi-faceted athlete that averaged 17.3 points and 8 rebounds per game last year. Hayes is not unfamiliar with the idea of competing at the collegiate level, as her mother, Kristi Hayes broke several records in high school and at her alma mater, Drake. Kristi averaged 52 points per game her senior year in high school and went on to become the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year at Drake scoring over 1,500 points during her collegiate career. Hayes’ father, Jonathan Hayes, played 12 years in the NFL and was a tight ends coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. He is the current head coach and general manager of the St. Louis XFL team. Her brother, Jaxson Hayes, was just picked 8th overall in the NBA Draft signing to the New Orleans Pelicans.
After several collegiate offers, Jillian recently committed to the University of Cincinnati to play Bearcat basketball. As her senior year approaches, there’s no doubt the sky is the limit for her upcoming basketball season with the Loveland Tigers!

Instead of doing a traditional interview I decided to put a spin on the interview process and do a question and answer forum so that you, the Loveland Magazine readers, could really get to know Jillian Hayes! First off congratulations on your most recent accolades and achievements! Tell me what was it like growing up in the Hayes house? Have you always lived in Loveland?
Thank you! Growing up in my house we were always on the go, trying to get from one sporting event to the next. My brothers and I grew up playing games and sports with the other neighbor kids in the driveway and the yard. I was born in Norman, Oklahoma but have been raised in Loveland since I was about 2.
When did your passion for basketball begin? I know both of your parents and your brother are top-notch athletes themselves, is that where the passion came from for the game of basketball?
I grew up around basketball it was always a part of my life. Through competition – and the more I played, the more I fell in love with it.
You are going into a very important year at Loveland High school in regards to education and sports, what are you most excited about? What has your experience been like as a student-athlete at Loveland?
I’m so excited for one last go around with all of my friends, teammates, and coaches. Being a student-athlete at Loveland has been amazing. We have such a supportive community!
I have chatted with Coach Parker about some of the athletes he has had the pleasure of coaching and he seems to really have a passion for the game of basketball and his athletes. What does Coach Parker mean to you? How has he helped you as a student, athlete, and person?
Coach Parker is such an amazing coach! You can truly tell how passionate he is for the game and his players just by watching him in games. He brings so much energy! He makes it known from the very beginning that academics come first and are very understanding when it comes to needing to stay after school to make up a test or ask questions. Every day in practice and even outside of practice he continues to push us and is always there to open the gym when we need to use it. Coach Parker really has helped shape me into the person I am today by teaching me various life lessons on and off the court.
Let’s talk about basketball! What position do you play? What position do you prefer? What’s your favorite part about the game of basketball? Do you have a basketball role model?
I play anywhere from 1 to stretch 4 for Loveland. I’ll play whatever position my coach needs me to, but I mostly play a 3 or stretch 4. I love the competing aspect of it and continuing to challenge myself to become the best player and teammate I can be. My basketball role model would have to be my mom. She averaged 52 points in her senior year of high school and was an All American division 1 player. Not only did her accolades make her great she also had such an amazing basketball IQ and had counter moves for every defender that tried to stop her.
Ok so let’s take a moment to go over your awards and accolades as a basketball player! What are your proudest accolades? Have you been selected to be apart of an elite basketball team or play in any all-star games? It’s okay to brag about yourself for a minute!
My proudest accolade is getting the chance to play for Coach Heard at UC and getting 3rd in the nation at Nike Nationals. I got the chance to play for an EYBL team for the AAU season. The EYBL is a Nike circuit that has the top competition from all around the country.
We have heard as a Loveland community about the big announcement….you have committed to The University of Cincinnati to play basketball! Are you excited to play sports at the collegiate level? Was UC your first choice? Talk about your journey to deciding where you wanted to play and why.
I am thrilled to be able to play division 1 basketball. UC was the perfect fit for me. Every time I stepped on campus it felt like home and I would just light up. The relationship I have with Coach Heard is amazing! We have such a great bond. Coach Heard and the rest of the staff already feel like family!
Your family is a huge SPORTS family with your mom being a former basketball all-star, your dad being a Bengals coach, and your brother committing to play for the NBA. Do you put pressure on yourself because of your family’s success in sports? If so why and how? What have you learned from your family?
No, each person in our family has their own story and although we are big competitors we don’t compete against each other, but rather support one another. I have learned everything I know from my family, they truly have shaped me into the person I am today.
Being an athlete myself I know that we are always reaching higher for bigger and better goals, what are some goals you would like to achieve over the next few years?
For my senior year, my goal is to help the team win sectional finals. We’ve come a little short in previous years. I would also like to make it to the NCAA tournament my first year at UC and really go on a run in the tournament.
What are you doing now to prepare for this year’s basketball season? Do you have any advice for any student-athletes out there that are trying to make it to the collegiate level?
Training with Coach Keith Braswell, lifting and explosion training. No matter what role you have I think you should always lead with confidence, have fun with it and enjoy every chance you have to be out on the court.

Black or blue. Listening to music. Sushi. Like Mike. New Orleans Pelicans because my older brother plays for them. I like hanging with my friends and playing volleyball. I love the community because they continue to be supporters of all Loveland’s sports. Two of my favorite spots are Loveland Dairy Whip and Trailside Ice Shack Hawaiian Ice in downtown Loveland.

Loveland, Ohio – Do you know someone who plays high school basketball? If so, you may want to continue reading as the National Federation of State High School Associations announced on June 13th, 7 rules changes, 6 that will go into effect for the 2019-2020 basketball season.
During an April NFHS committee meeting, all 7 recommended rule revisions were approved by the NFHS Board of Directors. The NFHS decided to wait until 2024-2025 to implement one of the 7 rule revisions. This particular revision now states the number on a basketball player’s jersey can no longer be the same color as the jersey itself. Before the NFHS made this change the number on a jersey could be the same color as the jersey if it was bordered by a contrasting color. The NFHS Board of Directors implemented a 5-year plan on this particular revision so that schools are allowed time to budget for new uniforms. Below is the official rule revision:
3-4-3e (2): The team jersey color itself when bordered with not more than two ¼ inch solid border(s) contrasting with the team jersey color.
The remaining 6 rule revisions going into effect for 2019-2020 are as follows:
3-5-4b: A headband is any item that goes around the entire head. It must be a circular design without extensions. If worn, only one headband is permitted, it must be worn on the forehead/crown. It must be nonabrasive and unadorned, and it must be no more than 3 inches wide.
3-5-4d: Add to (d) – Hair control devices are not required to meet color restrictions
3-5-5: Add Note: NOTE: Provided the shorts are not in conflict with 3-4-5, no drawstring or other part of the shorts intended to maintain them in a normal position causes potential harm to the player or others and wearing of the shorts is not objectionable in exposing the anatomy, there is no restriction on folding or rolling the shorts at the natural waistband seam.
3-5-8 NEW: MOUTHGUARD
A tooth and mouth protector (intraoral), if worn shall:
include an occlusal (protecting and separating the biting surfaces) portion;
include a labial (protecting the teeth and supporting structures) portion;
cover the posterior teeth with adequate thickness;
It is recommended that the protector be properly fitted, protecting the anterior (leading) dental arch and:
constructed from a model made from an impression of the individual’s teeth, or
constructed and fitted to the individual by impressing the teeth into the tooth and mouth protector itself.
State associations may deem a tooth and mouth protector required equipment.
Change section 6 to 7; change section 7 to 8.
9-9-1: Exception: A ball in team control of Team A in the frontcourt that is deflected by a defensive player, which causes the ball to go into the backcourt, may be recovered by either team unless the offense was the last to touch the ball before it went into the backcourt. If the offense was last to touch the ball in its frontcourt, only the defense can legally recover the basketball.
10-5-5 Note: The head coach and any number of assistant coaches may enter the court in the situation where a fight may break out – or has broken out – to prevent the situation from escalating.
Stop Clock for Jump/Held Ball-Part 3 of the NFHS Basketball Officials Manual-#3: When a held ball occurs, covering official(s) shall stop the clock using signal #2 (straight arm, open palm extended) while simultaneously sounding their whistle. Then both arms are extended straight out, at chest level, with fist clenched. Thumbs are displayed as a part of the signal. The signal is given with both arms moving in an upward motion. Should be followed with a directional signal (See #6) indicating team possession.
*Occurs when opponents both have their hands on the ball and neither can gain control
*When an opponent places their hand on the ball and prevents an airborne shooter from passing or releasing the try.
So you may be one of the many parents or spectators of high school basketball that are asking why revise these rules now? Theresia Wynns, NFHS director of sports and liaison to the Basketball Rules Committee, made sure she acknowledged any revisions that could be controversial or misunderstood at the committee meeting in April. One of the revisions Wynns commented on was Rule 3-5-5, a revision that now allows athletes to roll their uniform shorts. According to Wynns, this new change to the original rule “modernizes the rule and allows players to adjust their shorts in a manner that serves no harm to the game or its integrity.”
The NFHS released a rationale on Rule 3-5-5 saying that “rolling of the shorts is only illegal by interpretation, not by the current rule.” The NFHS also stated in the rationale that changing the rule, is an attempt to modernize the rule and allow what players seem to want and what serves as no harm to the game or its integrity. The interpretation was made because allegedly manufacturers did not intend on the shorts to be rolled when in fact many manufacturer reps will tell you that the seams are intentionally made to offer options in the way they are worn.
A significant Change to control outbreak of fights
Another revision that is sure to stir up a conversation is assistant coaches now will be able to go onto the court with the head coach

in an effort to restore order when a fight breaks out among players. Wynns gave a very good rationale as to why the NFHS revised this rule stating that “it can be difficult for officials to separate players involved in a fight on the court.” Wynns added that “this change will allow assistant coaches to enter the court with the head coach to assist officials in regaining control of the situation and restoring player safety.” There has been an outbreak of fights in high school basketball over the past couple of years so the revision of this rule now keeps the players’ safety and the integrity of the game of basketball intact according to the NFHS’s rationale to the rule change.
The NFHS said that “it is difficult in our society for officials to be able to help to separate players involved in a fight since our society has become very litigious. Changing the rule to allow the head coach and assistant coaches to assist in these types of situations will help the officials to regain control of the entire situation more quickly and especially in regard to player safety.”
Loveland Magazine asked Loveland High School Varsity Women’s Basketball Coach, Darnell Parker, what his insight was on the 7 high school basketball rule revisions.

When I look at these changes, the word that comes to my mind is consistency,” Parker said, “Making our game more uniform and safer should always be a top priority and that is what this batch of rule changes does. The title of this film is spooky in itself because during the season of Halloween who honestly likes the “lights out?” The film 
If you were able to handle all the movies on my list so far without any nightmares congratulations I am very happy you have made it this far! The film I am about to suggest you watch is by far one of the scariest supernatural horror movies I have ever seen. The Conjuring is based on a real paranormal case that the legendary paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren took on in Rhode Island in 1971. There’s nothing that makes a film more appealing, especially in the horror movie genre than sharing with the viewer that what they are watching is based on a true story, and The Conjuring is just that! The real Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are now passed, took on over 10,000 paranormal cases over their very long careers as paranormal investigators. The Conjuring film follows Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, as they get pulled into the mysterious demonic occurrences that are happening, according to the Perroni family, in their Rhode Island farmhouse. What Lorraine ends up finding to be attached to the family and farmhouse is beyond what she ever expected! This film literally has it all; great acting, great story development, great visionary moments and the scare tactics well they are off the charts! I will warn you that this movie may not be for children as it is rated R and has quite a few REALLY scary moments! Adults beware you are definitely in for a scare with The Conjuring!
You know the feeling when you see a film for the first time and after it has finished all you can do is sit there in utter shock and silence? That’s exactly how I felt after I saw 
Typically I am pretty aware of all horror movie film releases but for some reason, The Strangers, I didn’t discover until a few years after it was released. This film shocked me in more ways than one especially when I read it was based on The 
Ok, everyone, this Halloween movie is for the kids….and of course, the adults will admit they love it as well! 
You can’t have a Halloween movie list without including John Carpenter’s

Dean – At the time when I was at LHS, they didn’t have the really cool video production class they just added. The only course they had was the LHSNN class, which is the school news. I was the lead editor for the news, and I had to learn how to use new editing software and how to meet deadlines on a tight schedule. That was a fun class because I got to collaborate with the other anchors on coming up with different news specials and skits. Other than that, I had to teach myself everything else. Mr. Barrett, who runs LHSNN and the video classes, was also very supportive of me especially when it came to the different shorts I was making. I was also very fortunate to meet a really cool group of friends in high school that were also interested in becoming filmmakers. We all worked on various projects together and we taught each other different things that helped us grow. In fact, those students started the LHS film club, which I believe is still around? Hopefully, it is! Beyond that, LHS let me have the premiere of two of my films in the auditorium, which was extremely nice. They were very supportive of me and a lot of the students came to see the premieres, as well as our principal and superintendent. I was very grateful to everyone for coming out to see the films.
