Loveland Youth Volleyball Organization starts 2nd season

Registration for 2016 season is OPEN now till Feb 1

Loveland, Ohio – Spring of 2016 will begin the second season for Loveland Youth Volleyball (LYVO). Co-Chair, Megan Graff said, “The organization was created with one mission in mind – to provide a fun, learning, recreational environment for the youth of Loveland to play, learn and practice volleyball. This goal reaches far beyond the court. This is giving the youth of Loveland another chance to try a new sport, learn to work as a team and get active.”

Loveland Youth Volleyball Organization is a Non-Profit run by a board of volunteers. It is open to any jarvis-verticalchild living in the Loveland School District in grades 3-8. Coaches are comprised of volunteers who are given the opportunity to go through a coaching session with veteran coaches. They are also given a packet with drills, ideas and tips to help the season run smoothly. “All coaches will be background checked for this coming season and all seasons in the future,” said Graff.

Teams are formed based on prior evaluations for previous players and an evaluation day will be set up for all new players. “This is not a try out, it is simply to allow the board to form teams of relatively equal players,” said Communications Chair, Danielle Hollingsworth. “Teams play each other in the league and it is not beneficial for anyone to have one team dominate another,” she explained. Teams are also combined grade levels based on the league formation. This allows grade levels with too few and those with too many to combine and have more teams. “Keeping it all one grade level would give more potential for some girls to remain on a waiting list with not enough to form a team. Combining varied skills and grade levels allows the girls to take on leadership roles, have other to look up to and make new friends beyond their current classmates, said Hollingsworth. Teams range from 8-12 girls on a team in the following combos: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th. Boys can be placed on teams with girls in grades 3 and 4. Fifth grade and up they will have their own combined grade level team.

In the first season LYVO provided the opportunity for 102 girls to play volleyball. A few boys signed up but it was not enough to form a team. “This year we hope to be able to get the word out more, and have close to 150 players, both boys and girls,” said Graff.

Currently LYVO practices all in the Loveland School District gyms. Matches were played last year on Sundays between 2 and 9 PM at Courts for Sports in Mason.

If you would like more information about your child playing, coaching, or becoming part of the LYVO board check their website: www.lovelandyouthvolleyball.org or email them at lyvolleyball3.8@gmail.com.

  • Avoid parking tickets and towing at OSU – Michigan State game

Avoid parking tickets and towing at OSU – Michigan State game

Columbus, Ohio – Better Business Bureau Serving Central Ohio wants all Buckeye fans attending the Michigan State game to have fun, cheer loudly, and park carefully. During the football season, Columbus parking is at a premium, with many folks driving from afar to enjoy the games. Towing is currently a hot issue, especially when there are often more cars than available parking spots.

According to BBB records, there are 110 towing and wrecker services operating in Columbus. Last year, tano-ad-10-15BBB received 43 complaints against 25 different towing companies. The worst offenders were Shamrock Towing, Inc. with 20 complaints and a BBB F rating, A/T Towing & Recovery, LLC with 13 complaints and a BBB D- rating, and Towing Solutions Ltd. with 7 complaints and a BBB F rating.

Drivers are often surprised when their car is towed after only being left for a couple of minutes. A recent complainant to BBB reported that they parked at a restaurant on High Street, walked to the nearest ATM, and returned to their car being towed while they were “just getting money to pay for their lunch”. Typically, towing companies respond to BBB saying the drivers left the lot and ignored the signs warning against illegal parking.

Ohio recently enacted updated regulations for towing vehicles from private property to prevent consumer towing abuse. For example, for any vehicle under 10,000 pounds, the maximum towing fee is $90, and the maximum storage fee is $12 per day. The regulations also explain sign requirements for properties that enforce towing and outlines other rules that towing services must follow.

BBB  tips to avoid getting towed:

    • Know the Ohio Revised Code Section 4531.601 Private tow-away zones. Keep a copy in your car’s glove box so that you can easily refer to the maximum amount allowed for towing fees and other towing restrictions.
    • Do not park illegally, even for a short amount of time. If you think you may be parking illegally, simply move elsewhere. Walking an extra block will be worth the potential towing fees.
    • Park in a lot where you know your vehicle will be safe instead of risking parking on a side street or on private property. Private lots will have signs that you can carefully read stating their parking rules.
    • Even if you do not see a tow truck, someone could see you. Tow truck companies will often pay “spotters” to watch the lot and call them if they see a car owner park and leave their vehicle in the lot.
    • Do not let your vehicle’s tags expire. Make sure that your tags are up to date!
    • If you have a dispute with a towing company on private property, the police cannot help you. If you are on public property, such as a city street, then the police may be able to help you if you believe that the towing company is violating the law.

Loveland Tiger Soccer: post-game video, awards, interview, and and highlight reel

Here is our post-game report from our road-trip to the finals of the State Div I Soccer Tournament for the Loveland Tigers on Friday, November 13. The Tigers finished runners-up with a defeat by Walsh Jesuit, 1-0.

These still photos were shot shot for Loveland Magazine by David Burig. Click on the photos to see a larger view.

Scroll down to watch the LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video highlights from the match. The other is the post-game awards ceremony and an interview with Loveland head coach, Todd Kelly.

Loveland High School Athletic Director Julie Renner sent these comments about the game via an e-mail:

The support at the DI Girls Soccer State Finals Game was wonderful and we can’t thank everyone enough for the Support and Love.  At the awards ceremony after the game, the Ohio High School Athletic Association even commented on Tiger Nation and the support of the Loveland Community!

Congratulations to our Girls Soccer Team for such a successful season!  We are all extremely proud. The support by the community as well as the girls’ families was tremendous and heart-warming.

After the game, Kelly also thanked the Loveland community which turned out thousands of fans, perhaps triple the number of Walsh fans. Loveland took ten “spirit buses to the game in Columbus at MAPFRE Stadium, home to the Columbus Crew. Kelly said, “We played hard and we played like we wanted to win, but I’m disappointed for my kids. They played their hearts out.”
