[Video] The Works Pizza slices ribbon under new ownership

Loveland, Ohio – Last Friday the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance and the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce celebrated with a ribbon-cutting for Lance Sizemore, the new owner of The Works Brick Oven Pizza in Loveland’s Historic District. The restaurant is best known for its brick wood-fired pizza oven, the historic building it is located in, and a Pullman Passenger Train Car. The restaurant was founded by Scott and Jamie Gordon almost 19-years-ago.

Scott and Jamie both grew up in Loveland and of course, always held Loveland close to their hearts as they both attended school in Loveland as well. The Gordon’s first came across The Works Pizza building in high school while working on building their “Class Float,” but never imagined that they would eventually be opening a very successful restaurant within the same building. The Gordon’s will remain owners of the building.

What is now The Works Pizza was built in 1905 and was used as a water-filling station for steam locomotives. Years later the building was home to both the Fire Station and Public Works.

The Works Pizza is home to the Chime Bells that you can hear ring beautifully throughout Loveland, and “The Crusader,” a 1921 Pullman Passenger Train Car that Scott Gordon managed to find in Gettysburg, PA. The Crusader has since been remodeled so that it could seat up to 36 people, as the car can be rented out for events and parties.

  • Who doesn’t like to laugh?

    Who doesn’t like to laugh?

    by CeeCee Collins

This article seemed timely as we enter the “darker days,” of the year. Some people tell me they get seasonal affective disorder where they feel like they are getting up, going to work, coming home, taking care of family, and then repeating (think the movie Groundhog Day).

The repetitive nature of not doing anything for yourself or interesting can start to take a toll and you become depressed.

This has snuck up on me a few times. I do try to combat the SAD feeling by lining up activities and experiences that I’ve not tried before. Some ideas are a cooking class (Out of Thyme), a painting class-this saved me during Covid, and I did like 3 classes, Lemons and Limes offers many different types of learning experiences. You could try a new gym-check out Hotworx-for a warm to your bones work out or Activate Brain and Body to wake your brain up while working out, or Power Ryde for a very stimulating stationary bike riding experience.

My husband and I have been doing some symphony experiences. We went to a really cool one with a James Bond theme.

The article included today is about laughter. Who doesn’t like to laugh? When I have a good laugh, I think wow, when was the last time I’ve laughed that hard?!? It’s not enough! I’m watching a dark comedy called Afterlife with Ricky Gervais-stay with it. It is funny!

I hope you find time to laugh and not take things too seriously. We should all have fun!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Loveland, Ohio – On Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th, the city of Loveland will host their second annual Oktoberfest event. The Little Miami River Chamber Alliance and area businesses are turning the downtown Loveland area, well let’s just say it won’t be “Margaritaville” for two days.

Warsteiner, an international German beer company that came to conception in Warstein, Germany in 1753 when Antonius Cramer was asked to pay beer tax after his home brewing volumes passed the amount allowed for personal use, will be hosting a Biergarten (beer garden in German) Emporium in Nisbet Park. Traditionally a Biergarten is an open-air space where beer and food are served. This concept dates back to the 19th century in Bavaria in which breweries planted gardens above cellars to keep their lagers cool enough to ferment underground. Restaurants and bars will hold the first round “Masskrugstemmen” Competitions (Stein Hoist Contests) on Friday and then the battle amongst businesses with the strongest Stein Hoist participant will be held on stage Saturday at 5:45 PM. Also on Saturday, Loveland will host an official Keg procession and tapping of the keg by Loveland’s Mayor, Kathy Bailey.

“O’zapft is” – the keg is breached!

Of course, we can’t forget about one of the most coveted German Oktoberfest traditions, the tapping of the Keg! The tapping of the Keg is one of the oldest traditions in Germany’s Oktoberfest celebrations. The Keg tap is typically done by the Mayor of Munich, which in Loveland’s case will be Mayor Kathy Bailey. The goal of the Keg tapping is for the Mayor to hit the Keg with a hammer the least amount of times possible before yelling “O’zapft is” (keg breached). Once the Mayor yells “O’zapft is” surrounding vendors may officially sell their beer!

The Cincinnati Enzian Dancers will be entertaining Loveland with German Folk Dancing from 7 until 8 PM on Friday.

Keep your eyes on the time for an hourly Chicken Dance led by Liebeland’s leaders and personalities.

Schnappsband will play from 6 until 10 PM  on Friday and from 1 until 5 PM on Saturday.

Below is a complete schedule of events for the main stage. Restaurants and Bars will also be hosting German music throughout the weekend. There will be German fare available all over Loveland from restaurants and vendors as well.

Mayor Kathy Bailey said, “We are very excited that the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance agreed to take on this event! It will be a wonderful addition to all the other events that we offer the community.”

  • Loveland’s First Road to Health and Wellness Expo was a hit!

Loveland’s First Road to Health and Wellness Expo was a hit!

    by Cassie Mattia

Loveland, Ohio – What goes better with the Loveland Bike Trail than health and wellness? Your requests were finally answered as the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance (LMRCA) hosted the inaugural “Road to Health and Wellness” Expo in Downtown Loveland’s Nisbet Park on Saturday, July 30!

Over the past couple of years, Downtown Loveland has become the go-to spot for entertainment, exercise, and food culture. The Little Miami Bike Trail, which is the longest bike trail in the Miami Valley stretching out to 78 miles, has become the focal point of Loveland for bike riders, running enthusiasts, and families. The historical bike trail has been consistently encouraging people to travel miles just to experience the Loveland culture for themselves so CeeCee Collins, President of the LMRCA, and Meredith Taylor, Program Director of the LMRCA, decided that they needed to organize an event right off the Loveland bike trail for those that enjoy health, wellness, and fitness!

The “Road to Health and Wellness” Expo brought in mental, physical, and financial health professionals and enthusiasts to communicate to the community the benefits of living a life balanced with health and wellness. The event included swag bags, health and wellness interactive booths, music, the Acai “BOL” Bar, “breakout session” speakers, FREE fitness classes taught by community experts, kids’ activities, and much more!

“We have a beautiful setting in the heart of Loveland for this event and hoped the community would come out and learn something new and take advantage of the great resources we have right in our own backyard,” LMRCA Program Director MeredithTaylor said.

Watch my Instagram Reel here that takes you through the “Road to Health and Wellness” Expo!

I was honored to be involved in planning the first-ever “Road to Health and Wellness” Expo! In addition to volunteering at the registration booth during the event, I got the opportunity to share my Kickboxing expertise with those in the community by offering a free Kickboxing 101 class in the amphitheater in Nisbet Park. The class went so well that David Miller and I thought that it would be the perfect time to film a Kickboxing workout for those who would like to get their sweat on virtually! Click the image below to watch a short clip of my Kickboxing 101 workout coming very soon to Loveland Magazine!

Take a look at the EXPO through the lens of myself and David Miller…

Thank you to all those that helped plan, volunteered at, and attended Loveland’s First “Road to Health and Wellness” Expo! We can’t wait to help make next year’s health and wellness extravaganza even better! The LMRCA would also like to say thank you to the “Road to Health and Wellness” presenting sponsor, the Suzi Cree Team at Keller Williams Realty!

Loveland, Ohio – What goes better with the Loveland Bike Trail than health and wellness? Your requests have finally been answered as the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance (LMRCA) is hosting the first “Road to Health” Expo in Downtown Loveland’s Nisbet Park!

“Loveland by nature lends itself to health and wellness; the beautiful parks, flowing river, and overall landscaping offer opportunity to exercise and live a better life,” Collins said. “When we combine the natural landscaping with an array of health, wellness, and recreational businesses in the area, we felt that it made sense to showcase and offer to our community.”

The “Road to Health” Health and Wellness Expo will be held on July 30th from 10 AM until 2 PM in Nisbet Park off the Loveland Bike Trail. The event will bring in Mental, Physical, and Financial health professionals and enthusiasts to communicate to the community the benefits of living a life balanced with health and wellness. The event will include swag bags for those who register, health and wellness booths, live entertainment, food trucks, “breakout session” speakers, kids’ activities, and much more!

“We are so excited to bring this expo to our area to highlight many aspects of health–not just physical, but mental, financial, nutritional, senior care, and more,” Taylor said. “Every time we’ve mentioned this expo to our chamber members, we have received such positive feedback. We have a beautiful setting in the heart of Loveland for this event and hope the community can come out and learn something new and take advantage of the great resources we have right in our own backyard.”

The LMRCA would like to invite communities throughout Cincinnati along with health and wellness professionals to not only attend the inaugural “Road to Health” Expo but to sign up to be a vendor, offer sponsorship for the event, or volunteer to help. • I’m really seeing where the next phase of employment is headed

I’m really seeing where the next phase of employment is headed

    by CeeCee Collins

As I’ve had some time to spend with my 20-something-year-old children over the summer. I’m really seeing where the next phase of employment is headed firsthand. Very different from my generation (mid 50’s), we and our parents were taught to find a job in the town we were in, get up each day and go into the office and grind. If it was the 80’s it was a “who could put in the most hours,” contest each and every day.

I know we’ve all been reading and hearing about the latest way our children are working, but to see it in action has been…interesting. Perhaps, I’m a tad jealous, but mostly I’m happy for them. I kind of keep waiting for the fallout of their choices. What I’m referring to is their ability to FIRST pick the city, state, or country they wish to work (live) in and THEN find employment. No way would my dad have allowed that, nor would I have jumped into that risky venture years ago.

It’s cool, I’m seeing kids head south (I probably would have gone that route as I love the water), or head to Colorado (not my scene but I would have done the skiing). I often say, I don’t have a lot of regrets in life, but I do wish I would have taken time between college and real life to go on an adventure. Thrown caution to the wind! Live simply, waited tables, and hoped I had enough money for rent and food. I took a job that really was not the best fit for me after college but it paid my bills.

Workers today don’t even have to go that extreme. Yea, I’m a tad jealous. It has been great to hear where they all land. My son has a large friend group from high school and college. They truly all picked different cities to work in. They go visit each other often and have a place to stay. By the way, he is in Nashville. My friends and I say, could you have imagined doing this?!? Ha, ha!

I get it technology has advanced, etc. I’m just saying it would have made stepping into the workforce a little less painful after college if I could choose where I lived. If you read this and have thoughts or opinions, I’d love to hear them on our Facebook page

Hope you are having a great July and stay safe!
