Loveland, Ohio – Loveland native Ricky Mulvey started reporting sports as an eighth-grade paid intern at Loveland Magazine. While at the newspaper he went on to do interviews and be a “Talking Head” at a Barack Obama campaign rally in Cincinnati, and a Joe Biden campaign rally in Milford. He did post-game reports and coach interviews at Loveland High School and kept readers abreast of the career of mixed-martial-artist, and National wrestling champion, Loveland’s Matt “The Hammer” Hamill.
Mulvey has since graduated from Ohio State and has recently teamed up with David English from Lexington, now a resident of Downtown Cincinnati, to co-host their “Full of Cents” podcast that can be found on the sidebar of Loveland Magazine. The Full of Cents tag line is, “Business news is boring. Let’s make it interesting, fun, and understandable.” There are new episodes streaming every Tuesday and Thursday. Mulvey and English cut through the headlines and talk about how business news affects you.
Ricky Mulvey is a stand-up comedian, radio producer, and a mid-range threat in any pick-up basketball game. Mulvey loves talking about saving money on tickets, business news, and how e-commerce changed inflation as we know it. He graduated with a finance degree from THE Ohio State University in 2018.
David English is a Kentucky Wildcat, soccer fanatic, and a credentialed financial professional. He loves spending time with his wife, Amy, and tweeting at people who will probably not interact with him back.

Loveland High School Event Wows Those Who Attended!

Loveland, Ohio – After having to reschedule due to severe winter weather, Loveland High School finally hosted the 2019 State of the Schools event on March 20th. The event had so much success last year, the Loveland School District wanted to make sure the focus of the event was the same, which was to create an open house where students in all grades could show, through presentations, demonstrations, and displays, the learning that takes place around the district’s three core goals of growth, care, and innovation. The event is special in that it’s an event that is not only led by the students but actually showcases the students as well!
The State of the Schools event was something that I had never experienced before this year. I had attended many school events in the past, however, I had an idea what to expect. To my very pleasant surprise, the event was nothing like I had expected! I was amazed by how many parents, teachers, and administrators were there supporting and watching their students shine. The hallways were filled with school spirit, creative learning displays, music, student art and of course, there were robots, as Loveland does have their own, might I add VERY successful, robotics team!
I got the opportunity to talk to so many bright, young minds about what their displays represented and what teams/groups they were involved with at school and why. Watching each student I talked to, passionately explain to me what their cause was or what their display represented truly inspired me. It was great seeing an event focused on the kids for the kids to succeed.

Loveland, Ohio – The Spring Sports season at Loveland High School is off and running. Traditionally Loveland has had a lot of success in the spring and they look to continue with that success this year. Loveland currently leads by 2 points over Turpin in the All Sports Trophy standings and with each sport being worth 9 points, every point and every sport matters.

The Men’s Baseball team is currently 2-2 (0-0 in the ECC), Women’s Softball team, 1-3 (0-0 in the ECC), Women’s Lacrosse, 2-1 (1-0 in the ECC), Men’s Lacrosse, 1-2 (1-0 in the ECC), and Men’s Tennis, 0-0 but tied 2-2 in their scrimmage against the number four team in the state (Sycamore).
This is a big week for sport’s around Loveland as with the end of spring break comes the start of conference play for most sports. Upcoming events this week by day include:
Loveland currently sits 2 points ahead of Turpin in the All Sports Trophy standings and looks to bring home their 5th All Sports Trophy in seven years.

Men’s Baseball: Currently, 2-3 (0-1 in the ECC). The next game is Friday, 4/5 versus Kings at 5:00 PM at home. The team is led by Senior, Zach Segal who has an ERA of 1.56 and has struck out 14 in 9.0 innings pitched.
Women’s Softball: Currently, 1-4 (0-1 in the ECC). The next game is versus Taylor on Thursday, 4/4 at 5:00 PM. The team is led by Junior, Katlyn Kramer who is hitting .529 with 4 Home Runs, 1 Double, and 8 RBI’s.
Men’s Tennis: Currently, 2-0 (1-0 in the ECC), the next match is versus Elder on Thursday, 4/4 at 4:00 PM. The team boasts a lot of experience and looks to bring home an ECC Championship this season.
Men’s Lacrosse: Currently, 1-3 (1-0 in the ECC), the next game is at Dublin Coffman on Saturday, 4/6. The team is led by Senior, Fitz Dwyer who has 10 goals and 6 assists in 4 games.
Women’s Lacrosse: Currently, 2-2 (1-1 in the ECC). The next game is versus Ursuline at 7:00 PM. The team is led by Senior Frannie Cornett and Sophomores Babs Dwyer and Hannah Wenger.
All of the Spring sports teams look to do their best to win an ECC Championship home and represent their school with respect, responsibility, integrity, and pride.

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland is full of individuals who inspire us in one way or another. Whether it’s through simple acts of kindness, like planting beautiful flowers throughout downtown, or holding events that bring the community together for a good cause, Loveland people are always giving back. Chris Dombroski, a 2016 Loveland High School graduate, has made it his personal mission to not only give back to the Loveland community but give back to an entire community of those fighting cancer.
Dombroski has always had a passion for the city of Loveland as his hometown has provided him with some of the best memories.
“I have lived in Loveland my entire life before moving to Oxford, Ohio to start my educational career at Miami University, and always consider Loveland to be my home. I graduated from Loveland High School in 2016 and I am very proud of where I come from,” Dombroski said, “From the coaches on the field to the teachers in the classroom to the mentors I am lucky enough to have in our great community, I am very proud to be a Loveland Tiger. One of my main motivations as to why I want to be successful is to have the opportunity to give back to the great community I am from and hopefully inspire other members of our community to find their passions and never stop until they are fulfilled. I think what makes Loveland so special is the people in our community. Our community has helped mold me into the man I am today and I have been lucky enough to get to know so many amazing individuals along the way, each who have made a positive impact on my life,” Dombroski added.
Growing up in Loveland, Dombroski was inspired daily by his father, John Dombroski, to “enhance the lives of others through acts of kindness and generosity.” After Dombroski’s father passed in March of 2018 from stage IV colon cancer, he came to the realization that now was his opportunity to create something that not only he could be proud of, but his dad could look down and be proud of as well. That’s when the “Heaven’s Game Foundation” was created.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano with one goal in mind: to achieve Victory Over Cancer®. Since its formation in 1993, the V Foundation has awarded over $225 million in cancer research grants nationwide and has grown to become one of the premier supporters of cutting-edge cancer research. Due to generous donors, the Foundation has an endowment that covers administrative expenses.
“Following my father’s passing, I realized I had the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of others and honor my dad’s memory, while incorporating members of the Loveland community and passionate college students,” Dombroski explained, “This combined with the national impact of our partner foundation, The V Foundation for Cancer Research, I feel like the Heaven’s Game Foundation team has two incredibly unique aspects that differentiate us from other foundations. In short, our foundation utilizes passionate college students to achieve victory over cancer by providing a national impact delivered locally.”
The “Heaven’s Game Foundation,” which is a Cincinnati-based charitable organization, is unique in that the foundation is run entirely by young adults who are dedicated to saving the lives of those battling cancer. Dombroski says that one of his foundation’s main goal is to raise money for cancer research.
“When I created this foundation I based it on the idea of creating a platform for college students to collaborate in the name of impacting the lives of others battling cancer while recognizing that one of the primary difficulties with this positioning is a lack of developed networks for college and overcoming that obstacle through our association and relationship with the V Foundation,” Dombroski said, “To me, this foundation represents hope for the future as it is run entirely by the next generation of world leaders and people who are passionate about living in a world where no one has to feel the pain of losing a loved one to cancer and we are motivated to work until that dream is a reality.”
“This is a picture of my dad and I one of the times I was home visiting him. If I wasn’t in class at Miami or at a required event here at school, I tried my best to be home and supporting my family and dad. This is also one of the last pictures taken with my father. This image represents a middle point in his battle against cancer and it is pretty evident how much of a toll it took on him when you compare how he looks in the other images.”
Since the foundation’s start, it has gained quite a bit of support as well as a dedicated following here in the Loveland community. The “Heaven’s Game Foundation” is run by a team of 11 college students that attend universities in the Midwest and a team of adult advisories from the Loveland Community.
“What is particularly special to me is the fact that some of these college students happen to be fellow Loveland alums, passionate members of our great community, and lifelong friends of mine,” Dombroski said, “Additionally, seeing as we are a student-run organization, I have also established an advisory board of adult members of the Loveland community who serve as advisors for the foundation through providing insight, assistance, and recommendations and opening their networks for the benefit of the foundation. I very much enjoy collaborating with the people and businesses in our community in an effort to keep the foundation within the community.”
Dombroski and the “Heaven’s Game Foundation” has a couple of huge focuses right now, which is their flagship event, The Scramble Against Cancer, which will be held at TPC River’s Bend at 1 p.m. on April 15th, and the establishment of a yearly scholarship for a graduating senior at Loveland High School called the “Heaven’s Game Foundation” Impact Scholarship.
“The Scramble Against Cancer golf outing on April 15th is an opportunity for members of the community to come together for a good cause at the premier golfing venue in Cincinnati. It is an opportunity for community members and businesses to support the ambitions of college students whose mission is to impact others. The profits of the outing will be donated to our partner charity, The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and will be put towards funding cancer research endeavors of National Cancer Institutes,” Dombroski explained, “The golf outing represents something my dad and I enjoyed doing together before his passing and opens the door for a light-hearted and fun day for community members to enjoy each other’s company, play golf at amazing facilities, and support a great cause. It is an opportunity to start establishing our organization as a member of our great community and to honor the life of my father and thank all of the people and businesses who chose to support our team’s ambition.”
Dombroski and his team are truly excited to see what the future holds for the “Heaven’s Game Foundation,” and couldn’t think of a better way to honor Dombroski’s father’s life.
“This is a picture of my dad, brother, and I after the operation that removed the 90% blockage and part of his colon discovered in the colonoscopy. This image marks the start of the decline in my dad’s health until his eventual passing in March 2018. My dad was in the hospital for a couple of days and ultimately confirmed how far along the cancer was and confirmed his sooner-than-expected passing that was on the horizon.”
“I am inspired by my father and the fact that I have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of others with a group of like-minded college students who are entirely selfless and not at all interested in the glory, recognition, etc. of this foundation but are inspired by their desire to help others,” Dombroski said.
Loveland, Ohio – The Spring sports season at Loveland High School is underway. Loveland High School is looking to continue its ongoing success of this year into another ECC All Sports Trophy.
Last spring Loveland took home 3 ECC Championships in Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, and Men’s Baseball. This sports season Loveland looks to up that total.
Men’s Tennis
Return starters this season include Connor Ruble (SO), Sam Greenberg (JR), Alex Ditchen (JR), Matt Huether (SR), Ethan Libby (SO), and Cameron Smith (SR). After finishing 2nd in the ECC last year, the team looks primed to try and win an ECC Championship.
Women’s Softball
Return starters include Taylor Owens (SR), Ally Batsch (JR), Katlyn Krmaer (JR), Isabel Vuyk (JR), and Olivia Kenyon (JR). The team also returns their number one pitcher, Livia McClellan (JR) who had 54 strikeouts over 90 innings pitched last season.
Men’s Baseball
Returning starters include Carson Deer (JR), Spencer Rodriguez (SO), Matt Wesley (SR), Ian Cox (JR) as well as their number one pitcher, Zach Segal (SR) who had 63 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. Zach also boasted a 1.12 ERA, a 6-2 record, and a whip of 1.10 last season.
All Sports Trophy
Loveland is currently up two points in the All Sports Trophy standings over Turpin (112.5 to 110.5). Loveland teams looking to win the ECC for consecutive years this season are Men’s Baseball (would be their 4th straight ECC Championship), Men’s Lacrosse (would be their 3rd straight ECC Championship), and Women’s Lacrosse (would be their 3rd straight ECC Championship).

Loveland, Ohio – The 2018-2019 focus and priority of the Loveland Middle and Intermediate Parent Teacher Student Association (M/INT PTSA) is the social and emotional health of students in 5th through 8th grades. To accomplish their goal, they have invited experts to contribute to their newsletter and speak at public seminars.
Their April program will be a focus on boys. The speaker will be sharing insights into boys and how to build on their innate character strengths. The public is encouraged to attend.

Works by Loveland Students to be Displayed at the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition
Loveland, Ohio – The artwork of Loveland High School students Talia O’Neal, Sam Richardson, and Joseph Timmerman have been selected for the 2019 Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.
As one of the top 25 entries overall in the contest, Sam Richardson’s stop motion animation “Bombs Away” has been selected to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence. Out of approximately 11,500 entries by students from throughout Ohio, state jurors selected 300 pieces of art for the actual exhibition, 25 of which will receive this exclusive award.

LHS Senior Joseph Timmerman’s time lapse video “Wishing You God Speed” will be on display at the 2019 Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.
The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, now in its 49th year, is dedicated to the educational and artistic development of talented youth in Ohio. Selection of the artwork begins at the regional level. About 2,500 pieces of art advance to the state competition, where it is judged by professional artists and college-level instructors. Seniors whose work is recognized are considered for scholarships by more than 30 universities and colleges of art. The 2019 exhibition will open in April at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus, and will close in the end of May.
Lebanon, Ohio – The Southwest Region Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) has recognized the Loveland City Board of Education with an award for reaching the “Gold Level for Effective School Boards.” The award, which signifies the outstanding work of the school board and the positive cooperation and collaboration among the board, district superintendent, treasurer and administration, was presented at the Southwest Region OSBA Spring Conference in Lebanon, Ohio, on March 12.
“We are so grateful to our board members and the tremendous amount of work they put into the decisions for our school district,” said Dr. Amy Crouse, superintendent. “Each and every member is committed to our vision of high expectations for student achievement and quality instruction and makes significant contributions to the work we do every day. This award is well deserved!”
Gold level award winners meet at least 23 of 26 criteria determined by the OSBA, including among others, clear goal-setting, serving as a united team with the superintendent and administration, and practicing fiscal accountability. Board of Education members are: Art Jarvis (president), Dr. Kathryn Lorenz (vice president), Michele Pettit (board member), Ned Portune (board member) and Eileen Washburn (board member).

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School (LHS) has earned the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles. Schools honored with the award have expanded girls’ access to AP Computer Science courses. Of more than 18,000 secondary schools worldwide that offer AP courses, LHS is one of only 685 – and less than a dozen public high schools in Ohio – to be awarded.

“We’re honored by this recognition and are very proud of the achievements of our female students who take computer science,” said LHS Principal Peggy Johnson. “We’re committed to providing our female students with access to AP Computer Science courses to help prepare a more diverse workforce for critical STEM jobs.”
Schools receiving the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have either 50 percent or higher female representation in one of the two AP computer science courses available, or have a percentage of the female computer science examinees meeting or exceeding that of the school’s female population.
The AP Computer Science Principles course launch in 2016 was the largest in AP Program history. It has promoted the growth of AP computer science in high schools, and has led to a 135 percent increase in course participation since 2016, broadening STEM career opportunities for more students. The number of female, rural, and underrepresented minority students taking AP computer science exams has more than doubled in that period.
Providing female students with access to computer science courses contributes to gender parity in the industry’s high-paying jobs, and drives innovation, creativity and competition. According to UNESCO’s Institute of Statistics data, less than 30 percent of the world’s researchers are women; in North America and Western Europe, it is 32 percent. Research shows that women are more likely to pursue a computer science career if they’re given the opportunity to explore it in high school.
