Loveland, Ohio – In their home opener on Monday, December 5 before the Women’s Varsity game began, former Head Coach Darnell Parker was recognized for the impact his life made on the Loveland and regional athletic community.
The evening was also a fundraiser for the Foundation set up by his daughters, Alexis and Madison Parker to raise scholarship dollars for deserving graduates.
Jessica Early (alumni parent) spearheaded the tribute night, along with help of Athletic Director Rich Bryant, Assistant Athletic Director Shayne Lyons, (alumni parent), and with the help of all the current Loveland basketball parents, coaches, and players.
Early said afterward, “We wanted to make sure that Coach Parker’s family felt our love. We wanted the girls to have the opportunity to publicly dedicate the season to Coach Parker. Our Loveland community and basketball program were so greatly impacted and inspired by Darnell.”
Here is a LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video from December 2021 the night before Coach Parker went to the Cleveland Clinic for cancer surgery.
Split-the-pot raffle tickets and half-court shot tickets were sold throughout the JV and Varsity games.

Mattia said at the time, “Coach Parker has certainly become a big part of the Loveland community spreading positivity among his student-athletes and the cancer community. There’s no question that Coach Parker is a part of ‘What’s in Loveland’s DNA!”
Loveland, Ohio – Last Friday the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance and the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce celebrated with a ribbon-cutting for Lance Sizemore, the new owner of The Works Brick Oven Pizza in Loveland’s Historic District. The restaurant is best known for its brick wood-fired pizza oven, the historic building it is located in, and a Pullman Passenger Train Car. The restaurant was founded by Scott and Jamie Gordon almost 19-years-ago.
Scott and Jamie both grew up in Loveland and of course, always held Loveland close to their hearts as they both attended school in Loveland as well. The Gordon’s first came across The Works Pizza building in high school while working on building their “Class Float,” but never imagined that they would eventually be opening a very successful restaurant within the same building. The Gordon’s will remain owners of the building.
What is now The Works Pizza was built in 1905 and was used as a water-filling station for steam locomotives. Years later the building was home to both the Fire Station and Public Works.
The Works Pizza is home to the Chime Bells that you can hear ring beautifully throughout Loveland, and “The Crusader,” a 1921 Pullman Passenger Train Car that Scott Gordon managed to find in Gettysburg, PA. The Crusader has since been remodeled so that it could seat up to 36 people, as the car can be rented out for events and parties.

Sheth asked the Chief about his childhood, educational background, what led him to his career in law enforcement, and what was his toughest case as an undercover cop.
Also:
Sheth: “What should a police officer do no matter what?
Gabrielson: “We give officers two badges, one for their chest and one for their hat. One badge is for their…”
Her final question was a personal one as she is interested in becoming an FBI agent.

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland Magazine readers, are you ready to get your sweat on? Well now is your chance to join me in my first ever Kickboxing 101 video where you will learn how to Jab, Uppercut, and Kick your way into a fantastic workout routine!
Since becoming a certified Kickboxing instructor, I have wanted to produce inspirational, instructional workout videos for Loveland Magazine readers so that they could have the opportunity to get in a great workout from their very own homes. During the “Road to Health and Wellness” Expo on Saturday, July 30 in Downtown Loveland’s Nisbet Park, I was asked to perform a fitness class for those who wanted to enjoy a free workout at the Expo. Of course, I chose to do a Kickboxing class and while preparing for the class, I thought, “Well this would be the perfect time to film my first workout video for Loveland Magazine readers!” David Miller grabbed his iPhone and we immediately began filming, Kickboxing 101!
In Kickboxing 101, you will learn the basic boxing and kickboxing exercises so that you can learn the proper technique of each move before moving into “combination” moves. The Loveland Magazine TV workout videos are split into 5 parts as I demonstrate each exercise at a slow pace and then move into a faster pace.
Although the Kickboxing video routine is only 15 minutes total (tune in to the 6th video to go straight through the workout with no break), this workout can also be extended to an intense 30-minute workout that will leave you drenched in sweat! I incorporate 1 to 2 Kickboxing workouts into my weekly exercise regimen as it is not only great for your cardiovascular but also works on muscles that are often hard to get to with just traditional weight lifting.
Below is my Kickboxing 101 30-minute workout routine! Once you get the hang of the moves used in the workout feel free to write this workout down and perform it at any time and any place. You will need a timer for this workout. Boxing gloves are optional although incorporating them into this workout adds another level of intensity to the routine!
Perform each move for 30 seconds twice on each side

I like digging holes and hiding things inside them When I grow old, I hope I won’t forget to find them ‘Cause I’ve got memories and travel like nomads in the night
I build a home and wait for someone to tear it down Then pack it up in boxes, head for the next town running ‘Cause I’ve got memories and travel like nomads in the night
And a thousand times I’ve seen this road A thousand times
I’ve got no roots, but my home was never on the ground I’ve got no roots, but my home was never on the ground I’ve got no roo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oots I’ve got no roo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oots I’ve got no roots, but my home was never on the ground I’ve got no roots, but my home was never on the ground I’ve got no roo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oots I’ve got no roo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oots
I like standing still, boy, that’s just a wishful plan Ask me where I come from, I’ll say a different land But I’ve got memories and travel like nomads in the night
I count gates and numbers, then play the guessing game It’s just the place that changes, the rest is still the same But I’ve got memories and travel like nomads in the night
Loveland, Ohio – Who doesn’t remember being a kid and you get the fresh new box of crayons, Terri Carter answered when I asked her why the LIFE Food Pantry does their Back to School Backpack Drive each year. She continued, “It’s a new start. It’s a new year. It’s a new backpack filled with supplies.”
It’s early, but it’s never too early to help Loveland Area children be ready to head to their first day of Fall classes. You can help them go back with the same things and confident attitude that their more affluent classmates will have. Terri explains why in the interview.
Carolina Maurer added, “With dignity. With new school things.”
Terri is the President of the food pantry and Carolina coordinates their back-to-school program. I spoke to both today at the food pantry in Shoppers Haven to find out what they are doing and how you can help. I’m pretty sure after watching them answer questions, you will be willing to pitch in.
Visit the Pantry’s website to find out more about receiving assistance for yourself or your children, volunteering, or the instructions to hold a food drive in your place of worship, workplace, or friendly neighborhood.
