The Best of Loveland’s 1st Oktoberfest!

Loveland, Ohio – Did you attend Loveland’s First Oktoberfest? If not well do we have an early Halloween treat for you!

I of course went to both days of Loveland’s Oktoberfest on September 24th and 25th and wow was it an absolute showstopper! Not only did all of the Downtown Loveland area transform into a place filled with German food, drinks, and activities, Nisbet Park located right off the Loveland Bike Trail successfully turned into a traditional Biergarten!

A Look Around Nisbet Park’s Oktoberfest Biergarten

The Nisbet Biergarten was home to the Warsteiner Beer Emporium, the Stein Slide, live entertainment, the Wiener Dog Race, local vendors like Kona Ice, Dolph’s Dog’s, Epic Picnics, Right Stuff Grill, and Cincy Shirts (sold custom Loveland Oktoberfest T-shirts), the Stein Hoisting finals, the Tapping of the Keg, and beautifully decorated picnic tables surrounded by lights for families and friends to sit down and take in the atmosphere! Those that attended were able to grab beer tickets or buy a Loveland Oktoberfest keepsake mug to fill with traditional Oktoberfest Warsteiner Beer.

A Stein Slide Challenge

The local Downtown Loveland restaurants also participated in the Oktoberfest magic by providing traditional German food specials and hosting the prelims of the Stein Hoisting a.k.a “The Masskrugen Challenge!”

The streets of Loveland were filled with people wearing their finest German Lederhosen’s or Dirndl’s, in which Bishop’s Quarter’s held a costume competition for those wanting to show off their attire!

The Wiener Dog Race was the star of the festival as 15 Wiener Dogs competed for a Tara’s Pet Boutique Gift Card in front of a sea of people. Although the race itself was tight, my very own Dorkie (Dachshund Yorkie Mix) Dean took the first place finish! I decided to donate the gift card to the 2nd place Wiener Dog who was also a very impressive competitor!

One of the most traditional Oktoberfest moments was the Keg Procession that then led into the Tapping of the Keg! I was proud to be a part of the Keg Procession that included many cherished Loveland community members including LMRCA President Cee Cee Collins, LMRCA Board President Doug Portman, and Mayor Kathy Bailey. Once we arrived at the Main Stage located in the Biergarten both Mayor Bailey and Portman tapped the keg which led to an explosion of cheers and beer chugging from the crowd. What a wonderful moment of celebration it was for the city of Loveland!

Loveland’s 1st Oktoberfest turned out better than anyone could have imagined! We would like to say thank you to all those who came out to celebrate Oktoberfest! [VIDEO] Loveland High School Marching Band and Color Guard: An 80’s Adventure

Loveland, Ohio – Last Saturday afternoon the Loveland High School Marching Band and Color Guard hosted their 25th Annual “Drums Along the Little Miami” marching band competition. Seven bands from around the region attended the competition.

The LHS band and Color Guard performed an exhibition for the crowd before awards were presented.

As LHS was the host, they were not eligible for awards however were adjudicated as well as the other bands by a panel from the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA). Our home band received a Superior (#1) overall rating that qualifies them to compete in the OMEA State Finals.

Their 80’s Adventure included, In the Air Tonight, the Stranger Things main title, the Back to the Future main title, and In Open Arms.

The LHS Drumline also entertained as the crowd awaited the presentation of the trophies.

Loveland Magazine’s October Pets of the Month are Announced!

Self-described “Dog Mom” Cassie Mattia lives in Historic Downtown Loveland with Nala, Dean, and her boyfriend Adam. Cassie is the Associate Editor of Loveland Magazine.

Loveland, Ohio – We are pleased to present Loveland Magazine’s Pets of the Month for October! The community of Loveland provided us with some amazing Pet of the Month candidates and we are beyond thrilled to celebrate these loved animals!

Vivien Terselic is the proud owner of two Siamese cats, Eva and Lilah. These beautiful sisters will be turning 7 this Fall!

“When their humans were adopting a cat, they had just one in mind, but then a family that was going to adopt the other cat backed out,” Vivien explained, “So, Eva and Lilah stayed together and came home with their new humans. Lilah is gray and white and wears a blue-collar. Eva is several shades of brown and wears a pink collar. Both have bright blue eyes. Eva and Lilah are best friends, even though they get into fights sometimes!”

Vivien explained, “So, Eva and Lilah stayed together and came home with their new humans.“

Congratulations to Vivien, Eva, and Lilah for being selected to represent Loveland Magazine’s Pets of the Month for October! Vivien and her Siamese cats will be rewarded with a Nothing Bundt Cakes Bundtlet Tower, a gift card to The Works Pizza, and an 8X10 framable photo keepsake! Vivien’s cats will not only be featured in our publication but will also be included in our weekly newsletter for the month of October and our social media pages.

We would like to thank everyone who sent in photos of their pets as it was an absolute joy to see how many beautiful animals there are in our community! For those who sent in photos but weren’t selected this time around, don’t worry, as your entries will be entered back into the competition for the following month’s selection! For those that missed the deadline for October’s Pet of the Month, we will be taking entries from October 1st-25th for November’s Pet of the Month.

When sending in your pet photos and bios please include your pet’s name, age, and breed as well as your contact info with a short description of each photo you provide us with. If you want to share where your pet’s favorite spots are in Loveland that would be great as well! Remember we DO NOT discriminate against any pets; all pets are welcome to enter into the contest!

Who will be in your corner?

Loveland, Ohio – These events will be your chance to personally meet the local politicians who want to be part of the teams leading the Loveland City School District and Loveland City Council for the next 1,440 days. Four-long years, so this is important!

On October 21 the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance, Loveland Magazine, and LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV will host the contenders for seats on the school board, and on October 14 they will bring together on a public stage your job applicants for Loveland City Council.

City Council – October 14, at 7:00 PM at the Loveland Middle School/Intermediate School Cafeteria.

School Board – October 21, at 7:00 PM at the Loveland Middle School/Intermediate School Cafeteria.

Will there be undisputed champs?

Election fans can see if the contenders roll with the punches, stick and move, or have promises that pack a punch. Will you see any future respected political figures or elder statesmen/women?

Both of these heavyweight championship Forums will be broadcast “LIVE” on the Loveland Magazine FaceBook Page. It’s not Pay-per-View and tickets are not required – it’s totally FREE!

Who knows, there might be some highfalutin’ good ideas that come from one or more of these candidates that can transform Loveland. There will almost certainly be some re-hashing the past but that will be OK if it leads to knowledge of what the future might hold.

Politicians routinely offer more promises than they keep, however hearing them straight from their mouths is the start of holding them accountable. Meeting them in person is always better than voting based on the number of yard signs and you can be a political influencer if you can say, “I actually heard her say it!”

If you cannot attend in person or chose to be inside the safety of your own home you may want to tune in LIVE to be in-the-know.

The format will follow the same as in the past:
- To begin, candidates will each present their platform for 2 minutes and tell you why they are running for office.
- Questions will be asked for 60 minutes allowing each candidate two minutes to reply or pass.
- After 60 minutes candidates are asked to close with 2-minute speeches.
Voters can throw their written questions into the octagon and all questions will be screened for duplicity by independent ring-side judges. The emcees will ask as many of the questions as time allows in the 60 minutes.

You the registered voters of the City of Loveland and the Loveland City School District however will be the crucial and critically important judges come November 2 so reserve your ring-side seat by saving these dates.

LHS Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams Continue to Rewrite Tiger History!

Loveland, Ohio – Have you ever seen a Tiger this fast? On Saturday, September 25th the LHS Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams competed in the Loveland Sunset Invitational where they both grabbed 1st place finishes! The Women won with a score of 15 and the Men took the top spot with 17.

The Loveland Women’s Cross Country Team not only secured a 1st place finish as a team but also broke some school records along the way. The Tigers for the first time ever had 4 Women run under 19 minutes in the same 5k race, with the top 7 finishing 1-2-3-4-5-8-9. Previously the Women had only had 2 Tigers in the same race finish under 19 minutes.

Senior Emmy Sager secured a 1st place finish with a time of 18:32.70, Senior Jessie Gibbins placed 2nd with a time of 18:35, Senior Sarah Madix crossed the line in 3rd with a time of 18:36.7, Junior Madison Conatser finished 4th with a time of 18:57.9, Junior Ally Colegate placed 5th with a time of 19:19.2, Senior Maaike Snider finished in 8th place with a time of 19:44.1, and Sophmore Lauren Gard placed 9th with a time of 19:54. The Tigers for the 1st time in school history are not only ranked number 1 in the state according to the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches poll they are also number 1 in the state for their average team time on Ohio MileSplit. In addition to all those impressive team accolades, individually several of the Loveland Women are at the top of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC) with their latest times. Emmy Sager is number 1 in the ECC, Jessie Gibbins is number 2, Sarah Madix is number 3, Madison Conatser is number 5, and Ally Colegate is number 8.

OATCCC Week 4 Ohio High School Division 1 Women’s Poll

The Loveland Women’s Cross Country Team will compete again Saturday, October 2nd at Centerville’s Saturday Night Lights.

The Loveland Men’s Cross Country Team captured a nice win at their home meet last Saturday finishing 1-2-3-5-6-8-9 with a runner’s average of 16:30.

Senior Ryan Chevalier finished in 1st place with a time of 16:04.2, Junior Brady Steiner placed 2nd with a time of 16:08.2, Junior Cayden Dyer finished in 3rd with a time of 16:30.3, Freshman Nick Huff placed 5th with a time of 16:50.2, Senior Sam Neiger placed 6th with a time of 16:57, Junior Grant Hanson crossed the finish line in 8th place with a time of 17:08.5, and Senior Kyle Becker placed 9th with a time of 17:14.6. The Tigers are currently ranked 6th in the state according to the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches poll and several individuals are ranked at the top in the ECC. Ryan Chevalier is ranked number 2, Brady Steiner is sitting in 4th place, and Cayden Dyer is in 7th place.

Riverside Drive at Main Street to close for water main construction

Loveland, Ohio – Although an exact date has not been announced, the City received notification last week that Riverside Drive will be closed for one week so the water main can be tapped in preparation for the Main Street and Chestnut Street water main and road repair project.

This work will require Riverside Drive to be closed to through traffic for one week.

The Main and Chestnut Water Main and Road Repair project will begin on Monday, October 11.

The first step in this project is tapping into the water main located on Riverside Drive.

Brush Pick-Up begins November 8th in Loveland
Loveland, Ohio – The 2021 fall brush pickup program will begin on Monday, November 8. Brush must be placed in the grass near the roadside no later than Sunday night, November 7.

Guidelines for Brush Collection

The following are guidelines established for the brush pick-up program:
- Brush must be placed at the curb or edge of the roadway. Do not place brush in the roadway, gutter, ditches, or on sidewalks. Do not block fire hydrants.
- Limbs cannot exceed 10 inches in diameter at the cut section.
- Limbs should be placed at the curb with the cut section facing the street and all limbs should be facing the same direction. This makes it easier and faster to handle.
- No leaves, pine needles, grass clippings, or other yard waste will be collected.
- Small twigs and sticks should be bundled with twine in bundles 12 inches in diameter. Twigs or sticks can also be placed in a container at the curb, but no other yard waste should be in the containers. Please, no loose piles of sticks and debris.

Note
- The 2022 spring brush pickup program will begin on Monday, March 21.
- Any material not meeting these requirements cannot be collected and will be left at the curb.
- Outside the regular pick-up schedule, residents are encouraged to come to City Hall to get a free voucher to drop off any yard waste to Evans Landscaping.
- Wood chips will be available again this year. Anyone in the City who would like a full load of wood chips should call 513-707-6115.

OHIO VAX-2-SCHOOL offers 50 scholarships worth $10,000 each and five $100,000 scholarships

Governor Mike DeWine emphasized that keeping kids in school, in-person, five days a week, remains a priority. He said, “We know that the best way to do that is to get students vaccinated. In addition to protecting kids from the severe effects of the virus, students who are vaccinated, do not have to quarantine if exposed, which means they won’t miss out on school.”

To encourage eligible children to get vaccinated, DeWine on Friday announced the Ohio Vax-2-School program, which will be open to Ohioans between the ages of 12 and 25, and will be similar to the scholarship portion of the successful Vax-a-Million program. Prizes will include 50 scholarships worth $10,000 each and five $100,000 scholarships to an Ohio college or university for career or technical education. Prizes will be announced Monday through Friday beginning the week of October 11^th.

More details will be announced, including how to register, in the coming days.
